BEND OF THE RIVER GC
Hamilton County in Cincinnati, Ohio has some decent county park district courses, sadly, Shawnee Lookout GC is not one of them. ALthough I have played a lot worse, it just seemed downtrodden, lacking bent grass fairways and short. While it did offer a few very fun holes, I don't think I will ever play this course again. I have lived in Cincinnati for about 16 years and had never played it. Teeing off with a nuclear reactor (well, I dont think it ever went nuclear, but it was meant to be) in the background is strange. IF you are looking for cheap golf, this place has it.

Get your kid away from there! He's gonna wind up growing a third arm or something from those high voltage power lines and chemicals in the air... fie.gif

i happen to just work at this very same golf course that you speak of and let me tell you, it may not have bent grass or any of your uppity snooty features of many nicer courses, but it does provide some drastic views and in my opinion some of the best kept greens in the city, especially during the drought season. hamilton county may not put much into this course, but they still take very good care of it and provide some of the best friendly customer service in the game today. youre probably just pissed because you sshot a bad score because you couldnt get a decent lie. well let me tell you sir. i think this is the best course to come and practice honing your irons and wedges because it takes great control of both to shoot well here. its obviously still a challenging course ifthe course record is only 5 under for a par 70. and i take offense to anyone who says my golf course is a piece of crap becauseits where i learned to play the game and certainly where i wouold want my own children to learn it. i challenge you to come back for it sometimes takes a second time seeeing the course to trulyappreciate it for what it is. Shawnee Lookout.

Lets not get our panties in a knot golfer66, its called freedom of speech and honestly, throwing the course record line out there isnt saying much due to the fact that its a muni that is not in very good shape. Not too many +caps play those kinds of courses. I couldnt really tell where the fairway was in the pictures, not a good sign

I never said it was a piece of crap, I just thought it wasn't all that great. All of the other Hamilton County Courses are better as I am sure you will agree. My score? Well, I shot a 43 with 3 lost golf balls, not too shabby I think.

The greens were good, but a bit on the slow side.

Being 40 something miles from my house and Sharon Woods being only 10, with high gas prices, I would prefer to play Sharon Woods.

And yes, customer service was good, but I dont write about customer service, which is a good thing because most courses don't have any, or very little.

10 years ago when I lived up there Shawnee Lookout was a once or twice a year jaunt for my buddies and I. We used to try to get around and play a variety of the muni's on both sides of the river. I remember Shawnee being in better shape when I played it, could it be that it looks a little rough around the edges because it's been dry up there this year? I was up to visit family in NW Ohio over labor day and it was horribly dry. At any rate, can't say I disagree with you, Shawnee wasn't one of my local favorites either but it was nice to know it was over there when I wanted to play someplace different.

Greater Cincy has a nice collection of muni's overall from the city and Hamilton County courses to the County courses over in N. KY. If nothing else, lot's of opportunity to play different places and have new experiences. Thanks again for posting the pics btw..........

Cincinnati, while not known for upscale public courses here, has MORE affordable, decent courses than most other comparable cities in the USA.

There are a TON of courses you can play 18 with a cart for less than $40, many under $30!
