Just thinking about stuff from the not too distant past... What ever happened to:
Hexagonal shafts? The next best thing apparently.
Nitro and Bullet golf balls?
Paul Way? What's he up to now?
ditto Bill Glasson? haven't seen him for a while... or Chip Beck, Jim Gallagher jnr, Gordon Sherry???
Pal Joey wedges? No grooves!!
Plop putters? seemed like a good idea...
pom-pom headcovers? someone still using them surely?
Turnberry on the Open rota? love that course...
anybody? Please feel free to post the answer - or just another whatever happened to...

Pom-Pom headcovers - check out jancraigheadcovers.com. They are great! Takes a LONG time to get them and expensive, but handmade as the orders are received. Very durable.

Bill Glasson still pops up in a PGA or Nationwide event every now and again. He's just waiting until he turns 50. He'll tear that tour up I think, if he stays healthy.
Gordon Sherry flopped about as bad as anyone can. I think he's teaching golf now. I may have read that somewhere?

Callaway even used PomPom headcovers as recently as 2007 on their Big Bertha line.

I saw a little thing about Ty Tryon somewhere a week or 2 ago, probably the Golf channel. he is married and has a kid but is still playing golf trying to make it back to the big tour. I think he is playing Hooter's type tours w/ the occasional Nationwide. Don't forget he is only 23 or 24, somewhere in there.
As for Pom-Poms, I can't believe that nobody has mentioned rocket Tour or Adams. Rocket makes them and has been getting huge and Adams is using Rocket Tour Pom-Poms on the new Idea Pro Gold hybrids.

Hi guys!
Gordon Sherry is alive and well!!
He lives 300 yards away from the golf club i work at and pops in now and then to have a chat and to borrow a few kids clubs for teaching purposes.
He played quite a bit with my gaffer when they were younger in the west of Scotland amateur events.
He has 2 kids now and is still a very busy and active professional. He has started his own company called gingergolf (although i think he may have changed that name now) and helps find places for aspiring young golfers in the american college system. He is still playing every so often and is doing a lot of teaching and coaching at Stirling University in Scotland.
And he is still as tall as ever!!!!
Im about 6 foot tall but he is around 6 foot 8! i feel like im talking to a giant whenever we shoot the breeze!! lol.
I will pass your comments on and your best wishes to him when i see him next!
He never really had the the chance to fullfill the opportunities he was given due to him contracting glandular fever which knocked him sideways for a number of years! But trust me he is still a very very good player! He just decided to go down a different route in golf and has other responsibilities now!

Haha Luquidmetal! Completely forgot about that. Did a quick search on Wikipedia - apparently the clubs were highly rated by users - must be the reason why they are so popular even now.
Weren't the some crazy price as well, I recall that they were about £200 more than every other driver on the market here in the UK. Seems like a bit of a waste when you can pick one up on eBay now for a mere $22.50

Plop got bought by Zevo, and the putter line was done away with when Golfsmith bought Zevo.

Retired from the tour due to burnout in 1996. Moved back home to Kentucky to work on his farm and be with his family. I think he was occasionally playing local events in Kentucky 6 or 7 years ago because he had a son who was an up and coming player. Not sure what's happening since then.

langert
Went bankrupt. The founder, Ed Langert had previously been a designer for Taylor Made, so when Gary Adams started McHenry Metals, Langert reunited with him as a VP of Sales. I'm not sure what is going on with them, they tried to make a comeback in 2005 or so, with new lines of clubs, but didn't make any noise.
QUOTE
goldwyn
Went bankrupt due to poor investments(mostly Nick Price). Dick de la Cruz, one of the founders, went to Orlimar, and now has his own company, De La Cruz golf. Richard Parente, the other founder went to McHenry Metals, then Aserta, then did some design work for Element 21. He also owns Golf Labs, the biggest equipment testing company in the world.

What happened to:
Professional golfers shouting 'Fore!' when a ball is clearly headed towards the gallery?
Unifiber shafts? And CFP shafts come to think of it?
Metal spikes? Actually, I know the answer to that one, so it's more of a rhetorical question.
Drivers that you could hit off the deck with a proper flight to them?
The old Ping headcovers? The classic, coloured, barrel-shaped ones that were made for donkeys years and lasted forever..?

Andrew Coltart's still knocking it round and doing some commentary. I read an article on him in a golf mag here in the UK earlier in the year. He seemed fine and is working with a friend on recapturing his old swing at The Braids Golf Centre in Edinburgh.
What happened to-
Odyssey Blackspin wedges with crazy inserts
Basakwerd putters
