Pretty funny read. Best part is when he talks about his fictional character doing commercials for a hotel chain. It' s an obvious take off the Crown Plaza commercials Mr. Jenkins starred in last year. Most of his characters are based, at least somewhat, on someone real.
Some interesting perspectives in it. He obviously doesn't think very highly of today's PGA players. He consider's Tiger to be great, but thinks that it's too bad he doesn't have any other great players to play against.
I always enjoy Jenkin's books and suggest you pick it up if you like a little humor from a guy who has seen and forgotten more golf (though I think he remembers most of it) than probably anyone else on the planet.

How many times does he mention Ben Hogan? I'll put the over/under at about 104.

He is the biggest Hogan worshiper of them all, and he was a pesonal friend of Ben, played many rounds with him, and they are from the same home town....anyway I love his work I own a couple other of his book, very funny, the lanuage is usually R rated so don't let your kids see them if that is and issue for you, but IMO he is the best golf writer still living.
I assume this book is based loosly on Michele Wie???

More than likely Gulbis

I really don't know that it's based on anyone. The description is a little Wie like, except this girl wins. Of course, in the book she's from Texas.
A couple of Hogan references, but not too many that I've noticed. Probably just as many to Nicklaus, Palmer, and Trevino. It's pretty obvious he doesn't care much for today's golfers other than Tiger. Several references about them making too much money. Probably very typical attitude for most people from his generation, though I don't know that I disagree.
Up until a few weeks ago, I drove by Dan Jenkins house on the way to the golf course (he recently moved). A friend who looked at his house said that he'd never seen that much sports memorbilia in his life. I wish I could have gotten in there myself.
I've met him a couple of times, but only in passing. I see him at lunch maybe once a week, but he doesn't seem real approachable. Given his knowledge of both college football and golf, I would probably wear him out pretty quickly.
