I thought the Fed-ex "Playoff Beard" commercial with Wier and Gretzki was hilarious. I did not realize that Wier was actually going to grow one. Even better, it actually seems to be working. Weir has got a good start (on the Beard), by the end of the Tour Championship, it will look like the Beard in the commercial!

It's the only thing interesting about the playoffs. Check out the crowds at the Barclays---embarassing comes to mind... Nobody other than the players cares...

i really haven't found the playoffs to be any more exciting than regular tournaments. In fact, i probably like them less because it is all about the money. Nobody talks about the honor of winning the fedex cup like they do the green jacket, its about the 10 million annuity. Sickening.

As far as the playoffs go, I don't mind but I liked that commercial

. It seems they're pushing more commercials out to get more interest for the playoffs, because in fact, fedex cup has very little supporters.

Considering it is the only tournament of series of tournaments offering $10 mill, no kidding that is what it is all about. That was the whole idea from the beginning ro else they would nto have offered such a huge sum for it.

I noticed that yesterday, I just hope he sticks around long enough in the playoffs to get his beard that full.

Those commercials are pretty funny. I like the one with Ernie Els and the eyeblack. "What's it do?" "Nothing, but it makes you look mean!"

I don't know why everyone finds this tournament less exciting than any other golf tournament- looks the same to me.
In fact, the Masters looked kind of on the boring side this year.
A golf tournament is a golf tournament to me... Ummm- tee the ball off, hope to hit the fairway, hit it out of the rough, hit it out of a hazard, putt it into the hole.
Repeat 17 more times.
Repeat for 3 more days.
Who cares what they are playing for... I'm not gettin' any of it!
I just like to see great players hit the little white ball- I could care less who the sponsor is, how much they're playing for, or what the trophy or jacket looks like.
I do love the playoff beard commercial though- that's a good one. Weir has a good sense of humor.

Are you joking? Do you normally just spew bullxxxx on these forums?
There were record crowds at The Barclays this year... and a ton of roars. The galleries loved it, especially the finish today.

I'm not a fan of either Garcia or Singh, and I'm a bit apethetic about the whole FedEx Cup format, but I have to say the golf I saw tonight was quite entertaining. And the turnout was apparently rather good according to the reports I heard.
What's this 'playoff beard' thing all about? I'm English dear boy and the whole affair is something with which I'm not familiar.
I could do with knowing as I can add it to the 'Potential List Of Excuses For Why I Haven't Shaved' that I have to rely on to avoid a rollocking by the missus. I tried 'no razors left, sweetheart...' earlier in the week only to find a packet of several had magically appeared in the bathroom a couple of days later.

Quick explanation of playoff beard. It's tradition that NHL hockey players don't shave once the playoffs start until their team is eliminated. Since the playoffs last about 7 weeks, you get some pretty thick beards from the players in the Finals.

Thanks for the explanation.
I'll try that one - although a lack of any interest whatsoever in ice hockey for the last 34 years may make it less than effective methinks...

It's actually a myth that the Leafs have been bad for soooo long.
During the Pat Quinn era 1998-2006 the Leafs played 13 playoff rounds, the exact same amount as the Detroit Red Wings, twice going to the conference finals.
This is an international site though, so come on guys no Leafs bashing. We Canadians have to stick together here.
Anyways, we are in the Jeff Finger era now.
