I guess I'm just being sensitive, but it seems like he poses for 30 seconds after every shot, good or bad.

Interesting thoughts there DL wink.gif I don't mind it though.. I actually find it a great form of a follow-through.

Nope.... can't be any worse than sergio's old pre-shot deal.
Tenementrock
Nobody likes a poseur. Mahan's not so bad. Personally I don't care for Stewart Cink's follow through, just looks so contrived.

Agreed. It used to be terrible... not that it's a lot better now. And Tenementrock is right. Nobody likes a poser.

I hadn't honestly noticed the follow through thing, but the scathing wit of my partner has already labelled Mahan as 'looking like a weasel' along with Padraig Harrington who 'looks like a mouse' apparently...

Whatever, it couldn't annoy me more than the Tom Kite 'bounce the club off the back and then tilt the head' thing or the sight of Niclas Fasth swinging the club at all.
keaney91
No, it doesn't bother me at all. As someone who sometimes struggles to get all the way on my left side, it gives me a good visual when I watch him

You'd be posing too if you could hit it as good as Mahan.

+1 , those who object, secretly envy. Dont hate him. i pose on my good shots too, I just dont hit as many and I bet alot of others are the same way.

It's like a good jump shot hold your follow through.

+2

There is a reason why he does this.

holding your pose is also a good balance check

I wonder what the real Dalai Lama would have to say about your "concerns."
mat562
It could be worse.

Poulter and Villegas pose for about 5 hours straight whenever they play. wink.gif
sweeet
russian_roulette.gif yeah.. thanks for that reminder wink.gif

It is a good practice to make sure you finish your follow through. I'm always telling my kids to hold their finish after they hit the ball. There's two good reasons for this. 1) It forces them to swing in balance or they can't hold their pose. 2) It causes them to finish their swing. By that I mean a lot of people will make a good practice swing, but when they swing at the golf ball, they hit at the ball and never really finish their swing. This really cost them a lot of power. I tell my kids to concentrate on finishing their swing, so they're swinging through the ball, not at the ball.

speaking of posing/follow throughs, i can't stand to see colin montgomerie swing....
magilla97
I don't mind the follow through. Not a fan of Hunter though especially after his Ryder Cup comments. He is a spitting image of Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters though.
eaglecabport
no, it does not bother me.

He plays professional golf for a living. Don't be jealous. Enjoy watching it.

Don't know why you guys have a problem with good swing habits, ie, finish your swing and hold it until the ball lands

As has been mentioned above it promotes a better balance and complete finish.

The people i can't stand watching are the 'tossers', the posers that do the little flick of the club and let it slide down their left hand like Tiger does after a good swing pimp.gif

I call it the tossers pose or the posers toss - either way, instantly shows that they're more concerned about looking good than working on their swing

Unless you can swing like Tiger - give that sh1t a rest nono.gif

doesn't bother me that much. however he does it after every shot on the range. I didn't think there was quite the need for that. He does have a little toe tap thing going on that puzzles me...

Maybe we should all make sure to have a unique style so we don't get called tossers or posers.
I do this sometimes, good swing or bad. I've never linked it to Tiger, I never watched golf on TV up until a year or 2 ago, and i've been doing it for 5 years probably. It's not something i do knowingly, it just happens. So before you start calling someone a tosser or a poser, you might wanna take a good hard look at yourself, i'm sure you'll find something to dislike. Should you not, then i'm very sorry to have said those things to such a perfect specimen of human kind like yourself sir!

What i cant stand is the way ochoa wraps the club around then bounces a few times. Just odd looking. I have seen a few others do this. Im not sure why that annoys me but it does. Not taking anything away from them as players because they are great but it cant be any worse than watching my followthrough. Ha

In Ochoa's case, I read that she actually does that "wiggle" not to pose but to remind her to always "finish" the body turn after the swing. I used to have slice problem, and after I read that, I started doing the "wiggle" after the swing just as a reminder to always finish my swing and have my body facing the target... and it has helped me a lot... so I thank Ochoa and the magazine for that tip.

I much prefer his pose than a quick look-away-in-disgust-plus-expletive-with-shoulders-hunch-and-head-down finish many others have.

i dont like vijays.. his looks like a phantom midget linebacker ran up on him and tried knocking him down laugh.gif

I don't his, her or thingmy bob's follow through because they are all better than me. polling.gif

I always figured that her after shot crank was to reset the vertebrae in her back! She really gets it around on her follow through.

Don't mind seeing anyone's follow through because A. it's finally not tv coverage of a player staring off into infinity while reading a putt for what seems like forever and B. it's not the commentators booth.

I would love to see more shot tracers though and launch monitor stats on drives . . . I like watching tee shots and shots out of the rough or weird lies . . . bunker play on the PGA is kind of boring to me since their sand is so perfect and uniform <- hit the best bunker shots of my life playing fancy private courses with fluffy sand . . . try some muni kitty litter rock pits!

Well, obviously, "Gunga Galunga" ... wink.gif

Actually - I don't care about the pros doing it (they all have their own strange reasons for both pre-shot and post-shot rituals). What bugs me is the guys I get put with now and then when I walk on as a single on a municipal course. You know, the ones who have, like a 32 handicap, take four practice swings and seven waggles before the tee shot, and hold the pose for 10 seconds after it ... as they watch the ball trickle up to the red tees ...

Never noticed it, but it's a good way to make sure you finish the swing I guess. I try to do it sometimes.
