Going to be in boston for the weekend and looking for a course to play. Looking for a track that is within 45 minutes of the city center that is decent. Looking for greens fees that don't top 100.
Any suggestions, thanks.

south of the city or north?
if you want to stay in town there is George Wright. You can probably reach pinehill, and cross winds in an hour, but they will be about 110 or so.
if you go north there are fewer options. Maybe the Meadow in peabody (but id prefer you leave my city with a better taste in your mouth than this course which was the best course you could build on a piece of land that was never supposed to see a golf course).
If you go west you can get to a lot of nice courses again in less than an hour. Blackstone valley, red tail, wachusett, the stows, butter brook. many.
Welcome to boston, and play well.

I agree with the above poster. George Wright is a great Donald Ross layout. I havent' played it in a long time, but its probably in good shape and its a fun old layout with great greens.
Its tough because all the really good courses like Red tail, Pinehills are about an hour from boston. If you want to go on the cheap there is also Larry Gannon in Lynn. Its a good public course, but it's also a 5+ hour round some days, i've heard.
I would suggest Butter Brook, which is probably an hour North West of the city. Great new track under 100 bucks.

I mentioned butter brook to him as well in a private message. A fun place to play, and a lot of golf course.

I played George Wright yesterday. It was my first time out there, and it was in fairly good shape. There were still some wet patches from all of the rain we've had in the past few days, but it should dry out by this weekend. The first fairway has some bare patches in it that may worry you at first, but the conditioning gets better on the other holes. They just aerated the back nine greens on Tuesday, so take that into account.
It's a track that is 6400 yards and par 70 from the tips, with a lot of elevation changes for this area and some blind shots to go with it. Some of the holes are pretty tight, but others are wide-open so you can hit the driver. However, you'd better hit it straight, the rough is nasty in spots. It's about 15-20 minutes from the city center, so that would be your closest choice for a decent track. FYI, it was rated in the top-30 munis in the country by Golfweek earlier this year. I guess you could say I enjoyed my day out there.
