HEY EVERONE,

Likely they sell them in the pro shop.

As silliwilli says, they have a pretty detailed yardage book in their pro shop. You may as well throw it away if the wind's blowing though!

Playing the old course is one of the greatest experiences in golf. You'll love it mate!

I have never been to Scotland, (it's on my bucket list) but I know people who have played there and all of them have told me to get a caddy. Yardage is not as important as know where and how to hit it, if that makes sense.

It's a long time since my last visit to the Auld Grey Toon but the old faithful Strokesaver books were available everywhere back in the day.

Presumably the modern aerial photography/GPS/high tech/all-singing-all-dancing versions will be equally common these days.

As others have said though, it'll be as much use as a chocolate teapot if it gets a bit draughty.

Actually playing the new St Andrews Bay tomorrow.Devlin course

freebie courtesy of one of my friends ( Scratch hcp)

7.55am tee off 5.30 start from Aberdeen.

Been very wet but not windy at all.

temperature around 60 degrees.

hes a ggod player and got fitted by MIZUNO .Now playing X100'S but much too stiff for him in reality. He is only 1-2 clubs stronger than me and plays a lot of half shots.I asked him if MIZUNO mentioned soft stepping etc he looked at me as if i had two heads, also was offered 7.5 rifles!

hits a 7 iron maybe 165.easy ELS type swing

You can the get the yardage book from the shop. It is one of the best books i've seen with a "from the tee" view showing you the best line to aim for.

They do have them in the shop/new clubhouse or ask the starter. They're the new aerial photo ones.

Might be an idea to get a caddy though as the line off of the tees are different than what you think.

I've played it twice and wish I had some local knowledge on my first outing.

If I remember correctly its stay left on the outward 9 the same on the way back in.

Here's a great source for info http://www.standrews.org.uk/golf/the_cours...hole_guide.html

Forgot to mention, if you're in some bunkers take your medicine and be prepared to hit out sideays or backwards. My first tme round I was in Cartgate greenside bunker on the 3rd, two attempts trying for the green then just hit out sideways. Also Hell bunker on 14 is another monster, if your ball doesnt go in it take a trip into it just for a laugh.

great advise thanks soo much!

think the sprinklers have the yardages to the front on all the holes so will be able to get accruate distances from them

If you had listened very carefully whilst building, you would probably have heard the echo of Woods' 3 wood to 14 laughing as it sailed over the bunker... wink.gif

Take a caddie. You will not regret it. Not only are they very good, they generally will provide some great entertainment. As others have said, yardage on TOC means little. You need to know where to start and land your shots. Have a great time, don't get caught up in how you are playing. Just take everything in.

Also, they sell Strokesavers everywhere. Buy one as a momento.

I played it 3 days ago

1) You get a yardage book for free from the starter

2) Take a caddy. Its worth it. Even with a book there are a lot of blind shots and you will struggle. A caddy will save you two strokes a side as well as make the experience much more enjoyable

a yardage book is included with the round if you pay the full price.

take a caddie, they know what theyre doing.

yardages are to the front of the green. on holes such as 6 (with an 85yd deep green) you could be adding a lot to that number.

ive been fortunate enough to play the old course a few dozen times. its an incredible experience. have a great round!
