I am travelling to Chicago during the first week of November. I would appreciate the local input in terms of weather conditions during that time of year and any course recommendations.
thanks

It can be anywhere from 50 degrees and sunny (fat chance, but a chance nonetheless) to 30 rainy, windy and miserable. To be honest I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. Typically any golf you get in October is bonus golf let lone November. November for all intents and purposes is the start of winter type weather.
Unless you want to rough it. Depending rain fall and how wet the courses are you can always bundle up and take on the elements. My rule of thumb for winter golf used to be 30 degrees or higher, only on account of possible wind chills.
However I do wish you good weather, because that would mean good weather for me!
Open courses very with respect to conditions. Some close for the winter, some open depending on golfer traffic and weather conditions.

Like everyone is saying, it's a total crap-shoot. Really depends, and usually you'll get an idea if you'll be able to play a particular day from the weather a few days prior. Being the end of our fall/start of winter, weather can change drastically and quickly. Even so, there's the chance for really nice weather late in the year. For some relevance, last year I was able to play three days in a row up at Blackwolf Run's Meadow Valley course (a little over 2 hrs from Chicago, in Wisconsin) during a spell of decent weather. Sunny, little wind, and temperatures in the high 50's/low 60's. By the end of the weak though, the season was over with temperatures down into the 30's/40's and decent winds/rain.
In any case, I hope that it nice and you get to play..

who cares!!! bring layers of thin but warm clothing, a rain suit and deal with it!
I played in Vancouver year round, including seeing the snow line a few hundred feet above me a few times. Since we are talking November and not January, the temps posted by someone above sound similar to winter conditions in Vancouver and I played it all the time!
Have fun!
