If you see footage from the 80s you don't see many golf pros wearing baseball caps. Now all the pros wear baseball caps (a few wear visors). What's up with this? It's a BASEBALL cap

Do you think its because it gives more yardage for logos or is there a distinct advantage to getting a little shade over your eyes?
Discuss and have fun. Mainly I'm just noticing how the "look" of golf has changed.

I have been thinking about his too actually... I personally wouldn't be able to golf without a hat and sunglasses... there is such a large focus on staying protected from the sun now and back then probably not as much.

i would guess its mostly about logo space and sun protection.
I personally cant golf without a hat, it feels weird not having something up there

look back even further and you'd see a formal hat or no hat at all. i think visors took off because of shade and billboard purposes as golf started to get a little less formal. i'd guess that the billboard function was more important. baseball hats on the other hand just weren't appropriate at a golf course. as the ball cap has become pervasive in our society, it has been accepted on the golf course. and i think players started to view the visor as uncool because it has that kind of dorky golf vibe going, so they made the switch to 'cooler' baseball hats. but, to my eye, a grown man wearning nice pants and baseall cap looks terrible. all the more so if the hat is covered in logos.

I actually kinda miss the old school look from the 30's, 40's and 50's. White shirt, Tie, Vest, trousers and a brimmed hat, but not the new not quite the old fashion but worn by Hawaiian Shirt sporting tourists. Or even the old Paper boy style cap.
Nostalgia is a good thing.

Who remembers the old Amana caps golfers wore in the 60s and 70s?

I do. Lou Graham was the first pro who wore it that I recall. I believe he's the first pro paid for wearing a company's logo on the front of his hat.
EDIT: I also recall him getting a lot of heat for it at the time from his fellow pros. Funny how times change.

Don't forget lots of tour pros wore the "Amana Hat" back in the day. I think they got a free life insurance policy!

Jim Colbert always wore bucket hats as far as I can remember.

I love not wearing a hat, but if it's hot, it's a must or I get a headache.

I don't get baseball caps and golf. To me they're hot and don't give your ears or neck any sun protection. I prefer not to wear a hat but here in south Texas I usually do because of the sun but it'll be one with a brim. I've got a wool "outback" style for cool weather and a panama fedora for teh summer.
