I played behind a kid (20 yr old?) today and he was wearing knee high socks. There was about 2 inches of skin between the top of the socks and bottom of the shorts. Why?? This is in the US, not the UK. I asked one of his friends about it and he said the guy was just weird. Is this some sort of new fashion trend? It looked horrible!! Plus, he did NOT have the game to back up such a bad fashion statement.

Trend in men's bottoms coming for SP09 is more patterned pants (like the oh so hot plaid shorts, but a little more subtle), and capri's. Yes, for men. Like the tennis guys wear.

No, I'm not buying them for the store I work at. We are not that fashion forward.

if i wore shorts, i'd probably wear long socks. maybe that's why i don't wear shorts, though.

a friend and i were talking about a third friend because he's become quite religious lately. apparently he's now only wearing long socks if he wears shorts because that's what his church says he should do. i couldn't get any more info than that, and i don't know what kind of church it is, but i'm pretty certain it was for real. hadn't heard of that though.

Another post I read was discussing rules at a country club, which included 1) no ankle socks allowed while wearing shorts and 2) no socks required while wearing golf sandals.

I wondered what the heck was wrong with showing some ankle while wearing shorts, while showing nasty pasty hairy toes while wearing tacky golf sandals was OK!?

I wear ankle (no-show) socks while wearing shorts BTW. And I make sure to wear plaid shorts that clash with my striped shirt.

Maybe he was from Royal Birkdale in England. If you wear shorts there, you must wear knee high socks. Funny.

The only time I wear knee high socks is when I wear knickers. Id never wear them with shorts. I would think that would look pretty silly.

Long shorts with knee high socks is never a good look. Some of the old boys at my club this summer have bordered on looking absolutely awful whilst sporting that outfit.

I'm biased, since my legs look like pipecleaners with a knot tied in the middle and I suffered life-changing ridicule as a result of occasionally having to wear white tropical rig in my Royal Navy days, but I've never seen anyone yet who doesn't look a bit daft with just their kneecaps on display in the fairways. Bizarrely, it's the rule of thumb in the UK that knee high socks must be worn with shorts.

I know it's an old joke but I always have a chuckle when anyone mentions the possibility of wearing knickers on the course. 'Two nations divided by a common language' and all that...
