I was looking to get my son (14 years old) more involved in competitive golf events. Most amateur groups require a few hundred dollars to join, then more money for tournaments that are at set dates and times. Due to school and other sports - I have not seen a way that we could do this.
I saw a new type of League in the area that seems to be more convenient - was wondering if anyone has joined this before or can share some experiences.

Looks like: low cost to join ($45), quick 'seasons', can schedule your match anytime on an agreed course. Could be a good way to get involved in a more cometitive environment, but not hardcore.
Drawbacks may be: they don't appear to use a standard 'official' handicap system...not sure if there may be a good deal of sandbagging. Not sure how many members they may have, especially in my immediate area (would be good to have matches close to home)
Any comments?
