Just saw a AP bulletin that Greg Norman has declined the PGA of America's invitation to the PGA Championship.
He indicated that he had some previous business conflicts as well as having played the past 2 weeks and intending on playing this week at the US Senior Open would make it 4 weeks, and 4 majors, in a row and he didn't believe he was capable of that at his point in his career

I appreciate the honesty and the fact that he did not just go to "be there". I am sure he was very grateful that they invited him but he has to do what is best for him.

Not surprising. Im sure after the last couple weeks he has had, he's ready for a vacation. He definetly didnt have the same spring to his step at the Senior Open this past weekend.

Kill him! He should play in a major! I can't believe that he's throwing away this opportunity...wait, we're not talking about Kenny Perry?!

Missed the humor the first time. Sorry about that.

No we are talking about a former world #1 and Major Champion who is basically retired from golf. Big difference here between the two. Greg is not skipping the PGA to play against the 2nd tier unlike another.
My, my...no need to be snippy...I'm just kidding here!

Its cool. I really hope he accepts the Masters invite for 2009 as I am taking my son there for the first time. Greg has such a phenomenal swing and was always such a great personality would be great to see him at Augusta one last time (dang I wish he had one that once!).
Great British Greg!

He'll be there! I too can't wait to see Greg strolling around the fariways of Augusta again. However, the course is MUCH different than the last time he played there. I doubt he makes the cut.

A good thing he didn't accept. He probably would have been gone in 2 rounds anyway. Couldn't see him handling Oakland Hills greens the way they are set up. They were just trying to sell a few more tickets since the attendance will be lower than expected without Tiger. I know quite a few people (including myself) that gave away their week clubhouse passes just because it will be another boring Tigerless tournament.

My apologies to Tbowles. I had a few drinks last night and got on the computer. Now I need to check ebay to see if I bought anything. I have edited my post.
I think the PGA was just trying to get him there since no TIger and Norman's renewed popularity. I look forward to him being in Augusta next year.

Tigerless is boring? Hardly. He is the greatest of all time, but a final pairing with either Anthony Kim, Sergio, Kenny Perry, Philly Mick or Ernie will have plenty of excitement.
Now, I'm in Atlanta, and the Tour Championship will be boring. My wife and I are going to Montgomery that weekend to watch the LPGA.
