After reading the site I see it really gives no details about what it exactly is or how it works.

Can anyone shed any light?

(mods- please dont move this to a forum with no traffic!)

Basically there are 3 stages (plus a pre-qualifying stage that some have to go to). You must advance from the 1st stage to the second and from the second to the 3rd and final stage. The first so many (25?) at the finals get tour cards, the next so many get full Nationwide and the rest get conditional Nationwide cards. Entry is now something like $4500, could be $5000 now? It was $4000 when I tried a few years ago.
You aren't thinking about trying to enter are you?

If you can shoot under par consistently go for it! And I don't mean at some local 6500 yard muni.

It is oretty much like a 3 stage tournament. I'm not sure how many move on, but the top X go to stage 2, then the top X go to stage 3 and the top 25 or so get full PGA Tour cards, the next so many get Nationwide cards and so on. So basically it is just a 3 stage tourney w/ the winners goping to the PGA Tour.

Read this...he goes into it pretty well. Basically, though, prove you can play a little, pony up $4,500, and you're in. Then advance through the three stages, make it to the Tour, fail to meet the criteria there, and repeat. Even winning a Major isn't a lifetime exemption.

You have to pay the $4500 each time you want to tryout?

NOw I hear playing in the Open is different though correct? You just need to win some qualifying tournaments?

Yes you have to pay the fee each year, since Q-school only takes place once a year.

You can try and qualify for the US Open through sectional then regional qualifying tournaments. If you haven't turned pro yet and depending on your age you might want to try and qualify first for the US Amateur, Mid Amateur or Senior Amateur. You can normally find out about the qualifying tournaments for these events on your States golf association site. (ex: www.carolinasgolf.org)
