Is it true Bruce Vaughan didnt start Golf until his early-mid twenties?
How do these people get so good? Surely he must of had a job and everything and didnt really get to practice loads?
Its amazing!
Anyone know about it?

I actually caddied for Bruce on the Nike Tour (before it became the nationwide) back in the mid nineties. I wasn't his regular caddie, just at the event in my home town for 2 consecutive years. He is from Hutchinson KS and yes, he didn't start playing until he was in his early 20s. He was a firefighter and they said yesterday on the broadcast that he was encouraged to start playing by his coworkers because of all the down time they had. BTW, he played at Prairie Dunes CC which is a fantastic and difficult track.

awesome. i love stories like that because it shows with hard work and dreams you can achieve your dreams. How quickly did he get good? Seems like he has found a re-peatable one-two rythum swing and stuck to it?

I know he had a lot of success on a tour in S. Africa before doing well on the Nationwide tour. The first year I caddied for him in '95 he was a good player but not anywhere near the top on the tour. Next year he was like 7 or 8 on the money list so I made sure and called him before he got to town to get set up as his looper for the week. He was one of the older players out there but from what I heard from other caddies that traveled w/ players he was one of the most liked and respected guys out there. No one had anything negative to say about him. In case you're interested, he was sponsored by Ping at the time (looks like he's w/ Adams now) and played a Callaway GBB driver, Callaway s2h2 3 wood and Beryllium Zing irons (Zing 2s the second year).

I have a 1st cousin that played a lot of golf in Hutchinson with Bruce over the years. Always spoke nothing but the best about him and how he really helped him with his game.
It is really nice to see him play this well and all us windballers (uhhhh........that would be Kansas golfers) hope it continues for a long time.
Congrats Bruce

Bruce is a great guy. His game turned around when he learned to putt. All of the guys out there are good putters. To be a winner you have to be a GREAT putter. Bruce found that secret. There are tons of good ballstrikers on the various tours. There are NOT tons of great putters. That truly is what separate the winners from the also-rans.

An inspirational story indeed. There are a lot of guys out there with the desire to do something like that and he helps to show that it is possible.
Totally agree about the putting.

I was just reading in another thread that GolfWRX's very own Slicefixer either still does or has coached Bruce in the past. Congrats to Slice as well.
