I kinda thought the "that's not a 7 iron, THIS is a 7 iron.." was pretty funny... The rest not so much.

"Gets 30% discount on all Greg Norman Apparel"
And the 7Iron allready mentioned.
Rest was a bad attempt to be funny for non-golfers.

It's remarkable how many people seem to feel qualified to poke fun at him.

See Greg Norman was recently voted the most desirable sportsman in the world according to women.
He is rich,
Has kept himself in good condition,
and consistently comes second!!!!

http://scratchtoscratch.wordpress.com/Interesting and a very correct article about tall poppy. In Norway the whole country is leaning towards tall poppy(Janteloven in norwegian). It is really all there in the article, people who try alittle harder than others are badmouthed by people who for some reason dont have the possibility/time/skills to do the same thing, and in some kind of self-defence, will slap achievers around.
Insecure initiative-less losers should be a correct tag for those people

Sometimes the Onion is funny, sometimes worth a small chuckle, and sometimes a "uh...ok". I actually thought the link to the other faux news blurb was more funny.
Andy Roddick To New Friend Phil Mickelson: 'We're Just Like Roger Federer And Tiger Woods'
September 13, 2007 | | Onion Sports
LOS ANGELES—Despite having a combined 56 fewer career victories, professional tennis player Andy Roddick informed professional golfer Phil Mickelson yesterday during a Make-A-Wish Foundation charity dinner that the two athletes are "just like" professional golfer Tiger Woods and professional tennis player Roger Federer. "He plays golf, you play golf—I'm a professional tennis player, he's a professional tennis player…you have to admit the similarities are striking," Roddick told Mickelson, who vehemently agreed, saying "Yeah, we're totally just like them… The only difference is that they wish they were as cool as us." Woods and Federer were unavailable for comment, as both athletes were reportedly engaged in pleasurable mutual contemplation of the fact that all other people are their physical and mental inferiors, a fact as simple and undeniable as it is immutable.

I hardly think that a 53 year old man who succumbed to 4 days of foul weather and a tough golf course is "the same old Shark." For that matter, I am not sure if the "Old Shark" was anything but a great player. Sure, he lost a huge lead to Faldo in the Masters and lost a couple of other majors by flukes - but he has had an awesome career both on and off the course. Stills looks like he is banging the ball pretty good to me....

Agree.
I even have to thank the Shark for sharing in an interview somewhere (can't remember where I read it) that he started hitting the ball better over the last couple of weeks because he needed to stand closer to the ball. He likes to stand close enough where he feels his hands are going to brush his legs if he doesn't clear the hips enough. I stepped closer to the ball yesterday, stood a little taller and had a very good ball striking day - iron shots were awesome with the new TM MBs. Too bad the f'd poa bumpy greens wouldn't let a birdie putt in all day - that was miserable.

What a load of SH1T, the things people get away with writing these days.
I watched Greg for about 3 holes at the British Open on Sunday and he was awesome to follow, a legend IMO.

Fair point that it's satirical; the fact still remains though that it's not all that funny and is quite insulting in places to a golfer who has a fantastic record and who has reached the highest echelon of the game.

C'mon guys - its a bit of fun on a bloke that screams out to be the object of some parody!!
His record as a choking dog in big events deserves to be parodied.
He won 2 Majors, some big events on the PGA Tour and lots of small events in Asia and Australia and has made millions off the course. In a recent interview, Jack Newton stated that despite all this he has few friends and less admirers from former pros that played with him.
So cmon guys dont be so precious - im sure greg doesnt care what us commoners think about him anyway - he thinks he is ace and thats all that matters!!!

mildly funny to me.....
as far as picking on the poor professional golfer who is richer than I most likely will ever be (at least until my lotto numbers get called).... when we lose the ability to laugh and poke fun at others as well as ourselves, we lose alot of laughter from the world.
When did it become PC not too pick on a golfer who choked a lead away? When he chose to accept the big money on the tour, and to make himself into a public figure, he chose to take the benefits. That also means that he chose to accept the detriments such as public mocking for mistakes, a home life that was in the tabloids, etc.
I make fun of people for what they choose to do or not do. A person walking into a door, kind of funny as long as they are not hurt. A person who sings bad karaoke, yep, make fun of them. An athlete that makes a huge gaff, yep make fun of that. I humiliate myself in public by doing something stupid, yep, I'll make a joke at my own expense.
On the other hand, I will not laugh at what a person is for reasons beyond their control...race, gender, handicap, etc.
Thank god that a professional choker...excuse me, a professional golfer who is best known for one of the largest choke jobs in any sport is fair game to be mocked.
Now, flame on....You can say that he is better at golf than me, and that I will never even half his game, and that is true. You can bring up his clothing company or course design company and say that I will never have his riches. You can say that he should be respected for all that he accomplished (but wouldn't that include the choke job?) I would simply say that while I do not have all that he has, but I do have something in common with him, neither of us has ever won the Masters or the US Open or the PGA CHampionship.
Remember pro athletes are ok to make fun of still in this PC world.

Insecure initiative-less losers should be a correct tag for those peopleI would actually say those people that get mad at their idols being mocked are hypocrites. Tell me that you never laughed at a skit on SNL where a president was being mocked. Thats ok to laugh at and this isn't? Someone becomes the top politician in the free world and rises to the top of their game and we can mock them, just not little precious multi-millionaire Greg Norman? Sorry, I did not get that memo.
Someone rises to the top, yes, some will try to tear them down from jealousy and try to bring them back to the pack. That is what tall poppy syndrome really is. And those people are usually insecure people who are simply jealous.
What this is, is merely laughing at a public figure. I do not try to tear him down, I just laugh at his expense. Does that diminish the respect I have for what he accomplished? Nope, not at all, he won the British Open twice, he should get respect. But respect does not mean blind devotion, and I can laugh at him as a human just as readily as I can laugh at my own expense.

Think you misunderstood me, i was only referring to tall poppy and how some people react negative to someone who achive, or wants to achieve.I read the Onion thing and found some of the jokes funny, but the major part of the jokes would most likely be funnier to non-golfers.
And i agree, he probably is a nice fellow, but he can never be shielded from jokes aimed at him, like everyone else who have had their share of a long 15 minutes.
