Tell your best story or worst experience related to bad golf etiquette. Go ahead and let it out.

Here's mine (I'm venting):

This is during the Club Championship so every shot was important and there was motivation to play well. If it was just another 18 holes, I wouldn't have been so concerned, but this was important to me to stay completely focused on what I was doing.

So in our foursome was a high school student that had good ability, but needed to learn how to play well with others. Seemed very nice. It started with having to back off putts and chips because he was swing clubs too closeley to the line I was looking at. Really messing with my focus and routine. It continued with walking on people's lines on the green. Then jumping the tee off order occasionally even though everyone was ready. If I've earned the right to tee off first, I would like to have it - again especially in a meaningful match.

Finally, after backing off an important chip twice and losing focus, I chipped it 10 feet by on the slippery downhill slope, I was lining up the comeback putt and he continued to fidget and swing clubs almost directly behind the hole. I backed off. Got back in. Finally said "can you please stop moving!?" Got back over it and just as I started to bring the putter back, he decides he's too close to my line and begins walking away. Argh!! I was so angry and out of my game! Thanks kid. Sure I made the shots so I'm not blaming him entirely, but I don't think it is any coincidence that I scored better the next day even though I wasn't striking the ball as well.

First time I've ever begun rooting against someone on the golf course.

Is etiquette falling by the wayside as Generation Me is starting to take over or is it just some bad apples? I was paired with a different high schooler the following day and had no issues.

Sounds like you answered your own question there. But good story. I love the fish out of water stories, no matter what the "water" is. smile.gif
