If you're going to shout "Get in the hole!" at a tournament, you way as well shout "I'm an utter w@nker!" because the effect is the same.

A mandatory life ban from all golf tournaments is the only way to deal with the perpetrators.

I don't think this thread is going to get a single response in favor of yelling "get in the hole"

just deal with it... that's like telling other sports fans not to talk...

i have found it annoying in the past, but now just laugh it off...

i heard someone yell it at a college graduation ceremony. This was 4 years ago and it came off pretty funny in a the pretty quiet basketball arena.

Forced sterilization so they can't contaminate the gene pool sounds like a better idea. Same goes for the "You 'da man" guys.

i think that the people that yell it are hilarious. idiots, definitely, but hilarious.

i saw greg norman pull a shot about 10 yards off the fairway today and right after he hit he visibly showed his irritation with the shot-- what cracked me up was that someone yelled the iconic, "Get in the hole!"

Haha, i've been thinking this for so long.
I'm sure someone yelled it out when norman hit that ball 30 yards short of the green after being in the rough, you can't help but just think shut up mate.



This is quite obviously the only way to ensure that it will stop, haha!!

I notice it seems to happen more at The Open than other tournaments and can only guess that is because you have the day tripper types going to watch and not people who actually know the game.

Some of these folks only know golf through watching The Masters and think shouting "Get in the hole" and "You're the Man" is the way to behave.

That guy, along with anyone else that shouts "get in the hole!" should be punched in the scrotum every time they say it.

Might as well get used to hearing it, or only watch pro golf televised from China. I remember watching a tournament Tiger was paid to play in from a new course in Sechuan, China. They had problems with the spectators talking during a player's swing, then the announcer's mentioned that a few factories gave their workers time off to create a gallery for the cameras. I remember noticing that I never once heard "get in the hole"' perhaps because those watching did not know that was the object of the game.

It's a huge part of my spectator pregame mental ritual. If found for me to really be good at it and get the timing just right I need to practice screaming it on the practice range so I really am warmed up for the round.

What really sucks is the idiot at Torrey Pines who yelled "one time" while Woods' ball was in the air on the lucky chip(can't rememebr the hole, the one where he just laughed when it went in.) Couldn't the replay people at least have turned down the sound? Guarantee you that guy is still going around saying "that was me who yelled it".
