so you have this magical putter. It lowered your score, you loved it so much, blah blah.
You buy a different putter thinking its time to change, or just for fun or too much money to wipe you a** with.
You couldn't get over your ex-putter so you went back.
You buy another one later, you still couldn't forget your last putter so you went back AGAIN. so on, goes on, etc.
Anyone done this with a putter? Name the putter that REALLY lasted inside of you and the bag.

I rotate through my line up of putters faster than most, so I've gone back to many putters at least twice. Most recently, though, I bought a TM Spider to try out all the technology and put my Byron 006 aside. I went down to Texas for a "friendly" match against my father-in-law and the Spider didn't even last 9 holes (I brought the Byron down as club #14 just in case). I lost the match, which I deserved, because I never should have turned my back on a putter that has my name on it.

An odyssey white hot #1. I have tried at least three putters in the past two years and after a dozen rounds or so they just stop working. ( you know it is the fact that the putter stopped working, it has nothing to do with the puttee). On a whim, I threw the white hot back in the bag for a quick trip to Scottsdale this weekend, Played Troon North and shot 76 with only 27 putts ( a minor miracle for me).
So for now the old #1 is back in the starting line up.

Just in the last year and a 1/2, I have bagged all of these at least 2-3 times (each time is ususally for about a month or so) and the reasons they got left behind, but I just could not stay away:
Never Compromise GM2 #1 mallet (bagged 3 different times) (HATE, HATE, HATE how it looks cheap like a Walmart putter, but damn if I can't putt well with it; never lose my touch with it, just get to the point where I cannot stomach the site of it)
Scotty Phantom Futura (bagged 3 different times) (the small rounded version, not the Futura twin)
Odyssey Marxman Blade (bagged 3 different times) (loved it, but hated the too soft XG insert)
Ping Craz-e i series (bagged 2 different times) (loved it, just for change of pace, went to the Marxman again, and switched back to the Ping, and it would be in the bag today, but the current Marxman 224 knocked it out)

For some reason I put a nice roll on the ball with an old Ping G2 MyDay. I hardly ever use it anymore, but it is fairly reliable. It's my "caddie" putter. Those guys don't want to mess with putter covers so I don't use my "good" putters when I have someone on the bag.

I have noticed that different putters of mine work good on certain greens. Slow greens, the heavy putter is in. Fast greens the white hot #1 works better. You can really tell in the first few greens if the putter is hot or not.

For 25 years I've had a center-shafted Bullseye-type putter made by Plop. When my stroke gets hopelessly out of whack I go back to it. It's a very unforgiving putter so it makes me keep it simple. It will work for a while and then . . .

This one made me smile. I have always said that putters are as human as you and I and can sense when they are being betrayed or tested. It is up to the putter as to how they respond. It has been my experience, however, that rarely do the warm up to the idea of being replaced.
I hope that the 006 came back into line and is now the "gamer of choice". Byron's work is getting better and more recognized every day.
Great story, BTW,

I've got eight putters in my stable, seven of which are Newport/Anser designs of one type or another.
To be honest, they've all beenin and out of the bag at least three times in the last few years, but an old Mil-Spec and Ping Anser 2 are the mainstays of the bag and probably have 80% of the last five years' bag time between the pair of them.
Currently, I'm bagging a Newport TeI3 that's on about it's tenth 'I'll just give it another go' period since I got it.

Putter I came back to twice is the TaylorMade Nubbins....seriously. A friend was going to trade it in, realized that the shop wouldn't give him anything for it, then offered it to me. I used the Nubbins for over a year and guess I really got a feel for that weird insert.
Got caught up in the GolfWRX Kirk Currie hype in January, picked one up off of eBay, and sold it a month later. Back to Nubbins.
Tried the White Hot XG insert at a local store, liked it (or thought I did), bought a Marxman Mini off of eBay about 2 months ago. It's back up on eBay for sale right now.
I think I'm the only GolfWRX member with a Nubbins in my bag.....a little embarrassing, but, oh well....

My black bullseye-shaped putter. I don't even know what brand it is, but it works. It was given to me from my dad which he got from his dad. I thought I'd get over it, but it still works even now after being all scratched and banged up. I don't use it anymore though. I keep it as a commemorative gift from my father, which he gave me after my first round of golf

. Besides, I've already found replacements which are as special as my black bulls eye; My BB1 Dass, and Bobby Grace M1

My old SC Pro Plat Newport 2 Midslant. Tried to replace it with 2 different Odysseys this year and learned my lesson. It was my gamer for 10 years for a reason.
That said, just picked up a Studio Select Newport 2 Midslant yesterday and putted the lights out with it (same putter basically, just feels better). I forsee this one lasting another 10 years in my bag.
I never liked insert putters, decided to try them this year, but had issues with distance control off the insert. Tried and true milled carbon steel is the only way to go.

Mine is the Newport, without any site aids..but I kind of wished that it had a site dot, just something different to look at.
Did you notice that the length of the Studio Selects are somewhat shorter than other Cameron's of similar length?

I actually don't like the plumbers neck.....I love me some double bend....that's why I am shocked that I like it so much.
As far as length....all of my putters are at least cut 31" with a few as short as 29". This one is 34" and I found a club guy who is among the top clubfitters in the world...has one of those Circle T fancy shmancy Cameron Putter loft/lie machines in his basement and will play with my putter (

) for a decent fee. One of our members got his lie and loft adjusted, cut down, regripped....35 bones. Best part....he's local...YAY!!
I also forgot to add that i think the reason that i like the SS Newport so much is that it doesn't have the sight dot or line. i was talking to one of our members about it the other day and his reply to me was "ahhh you're a purist". i laughed and thought to myself....no not really....more of a nudist. it looks naked. and i like it.

This old Rossa Daytona I have. It is a tour issue putter. It is beat up, the grip is an old worn out Winn USA one. But every few months, I'll bring it out for no reason and putt lights out for a round. Then after that it seems to forget how to make them then back in the closet it goes. I wanna get rid of it, but I never will. It is only good for 18 holes every two or three months.

I've been getting off track here but the main reason I bought the Cameron Studio Select Newport was out of boredom. I've been back and forth with the Gauge by D Whitlam for about 4 years now. First time on the putting green with the CSS and it wasn't for shat. I then compared the putters side by side and noticed that the Gauge Design was way flatter, and with less loft than the CSS.
Fast forward, I jammed that Cameron in my vise and bend it to like type angles of the Gauge Design. Ta Daaa!! I can now put lights out with both...well maybe not lights out...but I can make some dayuum good Juans.
What I wouldn't give to have some guy wiff sum fancy shmancy Cameron loft lie machine in my necca da woods.
p.s. I like necced putters too like my Gauge Design.

This is a good thread. I own putters older than over half of the people on this forum. The one putter that has been in and out of my bag since 1985 is a Ben Crenshaw Improved 8802 by Walter Hagen. Yep, My Gauge, but it is Zman's fault. I putt very well with the Byron he sold me on my neighbors indoor practice green, but since itis a piece of jewelry I have a panic attack every time I take the head cover off. I cannot drag it through the damp grass with the shiny mistic pearl and the gold paintfill. What kind of sick twisted person would do this to an innocent golfer like me? Way to go Zman as if I did not have enough issues as is!
OH yeah I have a couple of Camerons too, but the Gauge wins for now. Tom Slighter says he is going to change this!

I have an Odyssey White Hot #5 on loan to my dad. I used it for three years and had some great times and great memories with it. Though I don't use it, I would never let it go. I would be very angry if I lost it. In fact, the memories with that putter seem to help to restore my confidence. Just before Pennant season last year (Australia), my putting was shaky and I had no confidence with my Callaway. I pulled out the Odyssey for month or so which gave me the confidence and it transferred to the Callaway, fortunately. So, now I have two putters that I have confidence with, and two putter which I will never get rid of!

Trusty Zebra teardrop mallet, I got caught up in the moi craze.. tried the monza, voodoo, inza and finally the cameron fastback over the past 2 years. The monzas were amazing from 5 ft and in, the voodoo was brutal, the cameron was nice.. I just couldn't get the confidence that comes from making so many putts and great rounds with the zebra.
Just goes to show you that feel and confidence can have the advantage over space age technology and exotic materials. The Zebra costed me $40 and I cant find anything that works better.
