Golf Magazine had a "budgeted" golf trip suggestion to Indianapolis, Indiana. I just wanted to expound on that.

No...I don't work for the city & I'm not a travel agent. Just a resident that believes we have some great courses & some big events in the next couple of months.

With the NASCAR race coming up (Brickyard 400 on July 26th) and MotoGP (RedBull MotoGP on Sept. 14th), this would be a great time to gather up the crew & head here. Throw in some rounds and you have a weekend from heaven!!

See the article in this month's edition. You can PM me & I can make some additional suggestions for any budget...everything from muni $$$ to 4-star courses. Not everything was listed in GM. As a matter of fact, they spread it across the state a little much IMO.

We played Purgatory last year and it is awesome.

Slightly off topic, but have you ever played the course at the Speedway? That's one of the courses on my bucket list.

I have played the Brickyard Crossing course at the speedway, playing there again next week. The course is always in top conditions, they have a huge budget. Pretty straight forward course, no blind shots, few short holes that one might drive, not me! If your a race fan at all it's pretty cool standing on the 7th tee just inside the track and looking at the place. Course has 4 holes inside the track. If you get lucky you might play a day that cars are practicing.

Plenty of great course in the area, would make a great weekend of golf.

I will take pictures next week and post some.

Links at Heartland Crossing was in the "budget" category, but I would put that one right up there with the best of the others listed. I've played them all and Indy is underrated for golf. They also omitted Bear Slide, which is very solid. Trophy Club is pretty tricked up. I agree that conditioning at Brickyard is exceptional.

I used to live next to the Fort and played it weekly, have not played in a few years. This is one of the top courses in the state. It's in a state park, so it is has no houses around and tree lined fairways, with some links style holes in the middle. Some large elevation changes and must carry a few ravines. It is a must play if your in Indianapolis area! There are al ot of great courses in the area, this should be on your playing list.

the fort's quite nice. its being in the park is really nice; very peaceful. it's usually in great shape as well. fairways are wide, greens aren't too tricky, but it's fairly long, so it's challenging. the back nine is really nice. the last 4 holes are very tough. i've played there many, many times (including a few times this year). if you have any specific questions, let me know.

for what it's worth, the poster above is correct, bearslide is another great track. i'd play it over trophy club everyday. and the beef with the brickyard is the price. the course is nice and in great shape, but nothing too spectacular going on, and it's like double the cost of many other comparable indy area courses. the links at heartland crossing is a pretty good deal as it's priced well, usually in good condition, and challenging. however, unlike most of the other courses named, it's in amongst the houses pretty good, which i can't stand. you actually turn into a strip mall to get back to the course...

Otter Creek is a traditional championship course by Robert Trent Jones...

Rees Jones did an additional nine there as well...

Highly recommend visiting their facility in Columbus, Indiana...

agreed otter creek is my favorite of the lot of them. however, i definately wouldn't call it an indy area course. it's an hour or so south.
