I was playing in a tournament yesterday and a kid had the alignment sticks in his bag and I wasn't sure if you were allowed to have them in your bag even if you didn't use them during play? It didn't matter because I beat him anyway but i just thought maybe they counted as a club?

No problem with having them in the bag. Unless they slip into one of the headcovers...

They're not a golf club according to the criteria, so you can leave them in there.
