Hi,

I'm looking to get a golf fix in Ohio, a state I never played in before, because it looks like there's alot of good golf where the green fees are very reasonable. Most of the courses I checked were in the Akron/Canton, northeastern section of Ohio.

Where would you recommend to stay to minimize driving time to courses? Looking for a quiet place. Scenic would be a nice plus.

Thanks.

This is right in my area... if your looking for the best I wouldnt look past Little Mountain or my personal favorite Thunder Hill which is arguably the most beautiful course in the area. If your looking for something in the akron/canton area I recommend the Quarry in Canton or Chippewa as the reasonable priced track... that course features great greens at a cheap price.

If you have any questions let me know because I've played them all.

Stay in Madison, Painseville, Kirtland, Mentor. Play Thunder Hill, Little Mountain, Manikiki, Sleepy Hollow, Quail Hollow, Sand Ridge, Painseville CC, Fairway Pines, Hemlock Springs, etc. Take a day off and go hiking at Nelson Ledges or Thompson Ledges. My old stomping grounds!

My buddy works at Thunder Hill, sign up on their website for emails and you can get tons of deals. Free round during your B-day week. Tips are 7500 yards with a slope of 154, 4th toughest in U.S. Little Mountain got 5 stars from Golf Digest, one of like 10 courses. Ranks up there with Pinehurst, Pebbel, Whistling, Bandon, etc..... I think Manikiki (Sp?) in Whiloughby is a nice track, old Donald Ross design, a must. Sleepy Hollow is an amazing course, for the price it's great! I wish they had courses like that here in California.

Yep, NE Ohio has great courses. Thunder Hill, Little Mountian, Wicked Woods, Manakiki out East. Sleepy Hollow, Pine Hills, Bunker Hill, Quarry, Blue Herron down south. Farther East (hour-ish) is Firestone Farms and Boulder Creek.

Those dozen or so courses would challenge most areas of the country. And best thing, is the average greens fees are about $50 for 18, with a range of $35 to $80ish.

Thanks to all for the recommendations - they were very useful. If this trip works out, I'll be going there instead of Pinehurst. I love Pinehurst, but Ohio is closer to NY and with the economy, cheaper is better of course.
