Did anyone see Phil's flop. He took it to parallel and hit the highest flop ive ever seen and made par. Unbelieveable shot and par save
illinikyle
It was a good shot, but the way his iron play is he better fix something if he wants to have a chance.

ya the flop was great but to hole the putt was more important.go tiger!!!!

Why do Tiger fanatics refuse to offer anything more than a backhanded compliment to other players? Kind of like how some ridiculous Tiger haters refuse to admit just how good he is. Yes Tiger puls off the unbelievable more often than most. Did I just hear 3 3-putts today? He is human. I am pulling for this Green kid, or even Jonathan Kaye if it goes to a playoff of 9-unders. Would someone on the announcing crew PLEASE PLEASE mention how hard it si to rattle off 5 straight birdies on this or any other course?

Animalistic,

That's why I didn't quote you, I was being pre-emptive on the Tiger Fanatics who are going to read this later, or tomorrow and discuss how Phil fell apart and how Tiger should have his own tour where he competes against a South Korean made clone of himself!!!!!
animalistic
ok sorry i kinda took that the wrong way!!!
my apologies maguy....! smile.gif

That was freakin amazing. I wish the shot it at an angle that showed the whole height of the flop.
TReed
He took a huge swing.
It was pretty unbelievable

not to belittle his effort, but flop shots are not that difficult if you have the right lie. the lie is everything, and apparently he had one that was well up. I guarantee you it wasn't anywhere near a tight lie. Try it your self. Group I used to play with had a standing bet on flop shots. Coming off one of our greens to the next tee there was a 30 foot pine tree 15 yards away right next to the next tee. Bet was to hit it over the tree from the green finge closest to the tee marker with a SW. Flat lie in somewhat lond fringe. Rarely would someone not clear the pine. We were all good but nowhere close to Phil's class. With an L wedge you had to pull your head back quick or the ball would hit you in the nose on the way up.

tncup, I agree it's easy as hell to hit a flop shot with a good lie... But the most difficult part about hitting a flop shot like the one Phil hit is the gauging the distance. He flew a bunker and landed that thing perfectly which made it so amazing.

Floppers are pretty easy HOWEVER think of how many times you've been unsuccessful, landing it short, or totally swinging underneath it.. given the circumstances, and the venue, it was amazing (if not only for the sheer ballsiness)

Flop's are easy, since when? Every magazine you pick up or lesson you hear is get the ball on the ground as quick as possible. How many times do you see a flop shot like that in a PGA tournament? I did not watch last week cover to cover but I only saw two and only one was pulled off. You take a bucket of balls to any course and short side yourself behind a bunker and see how many times you can land it on the fringe with a full swing flop shot and end up within 5 feet of the hole. Even without the pressure that Phil had on him to pull it off I put my money on that you could not do it many times. I'll be sure not to be across the green as to take a bladed shot upside the head. Phil's problem is not his physical talent it is his mental. I would put Phil's physical talent up against anybody's on tour. Yes, I said it anyone's. Where Phil sucks is mental. I doubt that he is in the top 10 when it comes to the mental side of the game but his physical talent keeps him in it, till Sunday anyway. Phil never knows when he is going to win. Tiger looks for the opening & walks through it, he knows that he can win.

I missed it ! I am so mad ! Does anyone have a clip or link to a clip of it ?

I could probably land quite a few, sadly i have been short sided many many times, so thats my expertise.. if i were on the green or in the fairway i wouldn't know what to do! I bet i can hack it out of the bushes better too!
albatross_putt
not a dig or anything, but that is prob cos phil is never in the bushes :P

Lob wedge shots are ALL ABOUT THE LIE. If you don't have one that allows you to get the club under the ball you don't have a chance.

And Phil's shot was one of the best lobs I've seen PERIOD.
