Johnny Miller is a great analyst and I love his off the collar comments. They may not all be gems, but it's better than cookie-cutter, vague, bland, P.C. comments that all the other talking heads spew every tourney. He is actually very prescient and insightful, he really gets you inside the "player's" head, he talks like a player and is superstitious like a player and when he says, "he better watch out for x here", he's usually right.

I like J. Miller. He is as accomplished as they come and is not afraid to call it like it is. He is a little over the top sometimes, but that is part of the fun and his shtick. The guy was one of the best players, ball strikers of an era that produced many of the best players in the history of the game. Something to be said about that. He might live off of his laurels from time to time, but who does not know a dad or granddad that fires out a "back in my day"....or "when I did that..etc". I find it amusing.
Not to mention he had all the shots when golf equiptment was, compared to todays stuff, lets just say un-technologically advanced.
If you are looking for a commentator that has been there and has the goods to back up what he says....Miller, Faldo, Strange, Baker-Finch are all guys that have the credibility to be there and comment accordingly, IMO.

I really like Miller. I enjoy listening to announcers that are not afraid to say what they think. I had the chance to "meet" Faldo, and I completely agree with what Azinger said about him. My favorite announcer of all time is Gary McCord. How can you beat the mustache??

Here is my list of announcers (its not like anybody cares):
1.GARY MCCORD (met him, great guy)
2. Johny Miller
3. David Ferehty (met hit, very nice)
4. Jim Nantz (met him , very nice)
5. Ian Baker-Finch (met him after he got drilled in the head with a ball on the 18th hole at the Barclay's last year)
6. Anybody but Nick Faldo (Hicks, European Tour guys, etc)
7. Nick Faldo (I think he is a funny announcer but an aweful person)
Sorry if you wasteda couple moments of your life reading my list.

Johnny said two things about Rocco that I think were pretty stupid but not totally hurtful.
The morons on the Golf Channel Monday night saying Rocco will regret losing for the rest of his life were outright mean. They essentially said Rocco was the goat for losing then went into their usual 24x7 Tiger lovefest. I am not a Tiger "hater" but I expected that if Rocco lost he would be a goat and if he won it would have been a fluke.

I like him... really the ONLY person who does golf that I have to use the MUTE button for is BERMAN.... all the other guys and girls don't bother me at all. I like it when Johnny stirs the pot a little... and he's right at least half the time...

Miller is excellent, nobody else in the booth is in his league.
Faldo for CBS is terrible. His Brit humor started wearing thin after a couple of tournaments. Ian Baker Finch is horrible, he states the obvious and brings no insight to a broadcast.
There are a few good on course announcers. Top of that list is Judy Rankin, she knows the finer points of the game and articulates her knowledge very well. Roger Maltbie's easy going style works well and complements Miller. McCord and Feherty try too hard. Top level golf is interesting in itself and broadcasters trying to make jokes interferes with the golf.

For me, Johnny Miller is the best, simply put.
I've been playing, watching, reading about
and generally in love with golf for 50 years,
and don't find the need to find fault with anyone trying to
do their job.

Johnny Miller -
I love a person who has the courage of their convictions to speak the truth. After all each person has their own perception on every single subject under the sun. But not every person under the sun has the courage to speak their truth. I applaud Mr. Miller, he's not afraid to let people know where he stands. I enjoy listening to a guy who shot a final round 63 in kind of a big tourney.............

I'd to see Miller and David Ferehty team up. Old pros that can relate to certain tough golf shots and have interesting comments.

I've been trying hard to figure out why Johnny Miller is so controversial. As far as I can tell, he likes to occasionally make fun of grown men hitting a white ball. It's hardly like he says things that are truly offensive or controversial. The guy is so incredibly bland. It's not like he's Jimmy the Greek or something.

It's funny you mention 'vague' in your opening post. If Johnny said 'vague' one more time over the weekend when describing the line of a putt I was going to throw a shoe thru the TV. Other than that, I like him fine.

I like him. I've met him a few times, some say he is an a**h*le, but to me he was very down to earth and pleasant. He is honest, he speaks from experience and he is also congratulatory on good shots and performances. I think he is the best broadcaster in the sport.
