Over the past year, I have read many post's by Mat562. He has talked about the lofts of his Nike blades being old school. I did my annual 2 year dump of all my clubs recently and ordered a set of the Titleist ZB forged blades. I did order the blade/semi-cavity/cavity back set. This time, I asked them to make the loft the same as the Ben Hogan PC irons that I still play with once in a while. I have owned seven sets of them. So with the loft on my Pitching wedge at 49 degrees, and the 3 iron being 23.5 degrees, then I have not been any happier with my clubs in some years. I added a 19 degree hybrid for a 2 iron, and have a 54 and 60 degree wedge. There are not really any gaps in bag. You do have to play some shots 3 finger and others try to get a bit more out of them. But this is golf the way, I played back in the 80's and early 90's.

So Kudo's to you Mat562 for posting your thought's and helping me make up my mind and go back to "old school".

I love the statement that you make- " My pitching wedge is lofted the same as your, but mine says 9 on it. Actually my 9 iron is lofted higher than the pitching wedge is in some modern sets.

Once again, thank you very much.

Well done on getting the right clubs for you, MAT562 is a top bloke. I also enjoy reading his post's. laugh.gif

I wouldn't listen to anything Mat562 says, the guy carries a 1 iron! cheesy.gif

Just kidding, he's a top bloke and knows what he's talking about when it comes to 'traditional' equipment.

I'm using a set with 'old school' lofts at the moment and I couldn't be happier. The gaps are filled better and I don't have to put an extra wedge in the bag.

Hope you enjoy it mate!

Thanks for the comments chaps. I only just noticed them, as I've been busy in the shed putting the finishing touches to the time machine I'm building. The missus did shout to tell me when justaman's initial post popped up, but I couldn't hear her for the sound of Nik Kershaw on my Sony Walkman... wink.gif

Time for a John Hughes film I reckon.

I couldn't agree more with using old school lofts, they are the way to go if you're using blade or players cavities imo. I have all my sets built around either a 49* or 50* pw, and work my way down.

Although playing a 1 iron may seem ridiculous to mere mortals like the rest of us. Lets not forget that young Mat562 uses the force...

It'll always be a piercing flight with that X500 cane and that strong grip.

That's a unique grip you have on that x500. Left hand low and thumb pointing up! Is that the secret to your game?

Sadly, another Yorkshireman has poached my Knighthood this year... Bah. diablo.gif

Seriously,

A book called "Jedi Golf" could be a very successful sequel to "Zen Golf".

What's the difference between "being in the zone" and "feeling the force flow through you"? biggrin.gif
