Just finished watching this show with David Toms and SLJ. I don't think SLJ is a 6...bad swing and terrible short game mechanics. Anyone else see it?

Yeah I watched it... all I kept thinking was David Toms was talking real fast and giving out a lot of information. I wonder how much SLJ was listening...

I didn't see the show, but he has said that his game suffers when he is working but improves when he has time off (like most of us). I've played with more than a few single digit handicaps with terrrible swings and mechanics, but they knew how to get the ball in the hole.

Hehe, yep, that was funny one. He just does what he wants to do. Really I don't think he's a 6-capper though.

Another 'Celeb' handicap I fancy.
The only 'star' golfer I've ever seen who looked
remotely like he could play to his handicap was/is Kenny G. Kyle MacLachlan looks quite handy though for a 10 handicapper. I managed to watch a
bit this years' Bob Hope and saw some
damn fine wedge play...

Is he lying about his handicap? Unheard of!

I was at a Celebrity Golf thing a year ago at Trump Nationional with SLJ, Kenny G, Kyle M and a bunch of other celebrity players. Kenny G definitely has game. Mark Wahlberg has decent game and he's a lefty. Josh Duhamel has got some definite power. I wasn't paying that much attention to score but at the time I don't think SLJ was playing to a 6.

BMW celeb invitational had Kurt Russell, Owen Wilson (luke's brother), Joe Pesci and Dennis Quaid. They were decent except Joe. James Garner and Clint Eastwood were supposedly pretty good when they were younger. How good is Bill Murray or is he just a course jokester?

I question peoples HC's all the time. I feel there are many people who stretch the truth when it comes to HC's. Unless your a scratch player I don't care what your HC is. Sometimes I wish HC's were not even mentioned among us who don't even play tournys. There is no reason to even have one if your not competing.
How about a 80's, 90's, 100's tier...we can just say we are in the 90's tier instead of giving a HC.

....we could do that.....but i would tell you I am an 80's player....but having shot 101 recently, my worst score in years, what do i tell you now?

LOL...I would say your an 80's player w/ the occasional day you wish to forget. I appreciate the fact that your honest about it. I play w/ so many guys/girls that throw out all of their bad days, and go by the 5 best rounds...which aren't legit anyway. You know the players who re-hit 5-6 times a round, count lip-outs as good..etc. The HC system is bogus if you ask me...well the players are bogus I guess not the system.

I can see what you are saying, but this doesn't bother me. As far as I am concerned, these types are only cheating themselves and will end up paying up in a match. The sandbaggers are what irratate me, the ones going the other way and claiming to be a higher cap than what they are.

When movie stars/rock stars etc are signing contracts they can have pretty much anything they want in their contract (eg mariah carey has to have a private room with 2 bathrooms decorated in white with 6 vases in the room each with 12 white roses . . . and many other ridiculously fussy demands. . . all in her dressing room whenever she goes to a concert.
When SLJ was signing a movie deal in the late 90's his agent asked if he would have and "special requests" to include in the contract and he jokingly said he wanted to get paid to play golf twice a week. His agent included this in the contract and SLJ couldnt believe he was granted it - apparently it's one of the easiest "special requests" that anyone's asked from them. So for the last 10 years he's had this put into every movie contract he signs.
Hmm. . . given that he'd probably be pulling in £15million plus for each movie i'd say that "special request" makes him the 2nd highest paid golfer in the world!!

I'd much rather watch elite amateurs than celebrities...
Personally I refuse to watch bad swings, they can be infectious.

I must have missed something because the only bad shot I saw him hit was the the tough chip from behind the green on a downslope with sparse looking grass, not to mention the green running away from him. He hit the fairway on two of the three holes(first cut on left of the other), knocked the SW from 73 yards to 6 feet, hit it to 20 feet on the par-3 that Toms said was playing about 180, missed two birdie putts ny coming up short. looked pretty much like a 6-handicapper to me. Just because his swing isn't the prettiest thing to look at doesn't mean he can't be a good golfer. I know plenty of scratch golfers who make Craig Parry look like Ben Hogan. You guys are a little tough on SLJ.

Harvey Penick once told one of his students who lost a match to a kid with a bad swing, "Don't worry about the kid with the good swing it's the one with the bad swing who knows how to score".
I know I trashed his quote but it was something like that.

6 capper means that 20% of the best rounds you post are right around six strokes of the course rating. It doesn't mean that you fire sub eighties rounds every time you tee it up. Also SLJ's handicap is probably kept at one course that he plays most of the time.
