So what kind of towel do you use? I have been using a combination of two towels but this gets to be a pain when I walk. I would prefer a nice, plush towel that I can attach to my bag.
What are you using and why?

I have been using a Scotty Cameron Towel that was released for Augusta this year. What I really like about it is that it is long, skinny and the hook is in the center of the towel allowing me to wet one side of the towel and keep the other side dry.

I bought a 4 pack of 24" x 40" towels that I got from target for $10. I wrap them around my 3 and 5 woods mainly because it keeps the headcovers on (the poms are too big and heavy).

I don't know what the brand is, but I have a great golf-specific towel for my bag. It has a patch of velcro sewed on part of it, I can attatch my glove to it or use this area to clean the grooves without worrying about scratching the club faces.

Plain white cheap bath towels from Wal-Mart. About 4'x2'. Wet one end and hang it over bar above the basket on the back of the cart, dry and wet right there next to your clubs. You can get a ton of uses out of one, bleach it clean and if you loose it, who cares? You're out a buck, go buy ten more and you're set for the rest of the season. For 50 cents you can buy a few of the cheap wash rags too and keep one in your pocket, works great to clean your ball on the green. I have no idea what good those little "golf towels" you spend 12 bucks on at the pro shop are good for except looking pretty and being useless.

Exactly, but 3 star is too much. I would go with a 1 or 2 star hotel towel. They get washed more and are a little rougher to really get the dirt out of grooves. All I have ever used are hotel towels, I got on college golf trips. DII schools don't stay at the 3 star and above.

A plain white medium sized bath towel is perfect.
As someone above said, keep one end damp and the other dry. Hang it over your driver, job done.
My current one is courtesy of my gym (not that they know that).

Just out of curiosity, why is "confiscating" a towel from a hotel or gym considered acceptable behavior, especially by golfers? Maybe I am too old and too old fashioned and my values no longer apply, but I was always taught that such an act was "stealing".

To be a golfer is to be a part of something sacred in my opinion. We should not be stealing anything from anyone, no matter how miniscule we think it might be. I have used hotel towels before but always left them at the hotel upon leaving. Why steal anything, let alone something you can buy ten of for the change under your car seat?

I use two towels. One for my clubs, and one for my face. (I really don't like the idea of whipping fertilizer and other chemicals on my face.) Anyway, I got a great deal on some huge Callaway towels, so I use them.

When I was in Jr. Golf. Most of the tournaments put in the rules that if we were caught with hotel towels we would be DQ. I am sure most of the hotels were not happy with us returning them with grass stains. So we never took them again.
Best place to get towels are Target, Wal-Mart, etc. They are cheap and you can throw them away after they get very dirty.
I only wipe my clubs on one side, at one end and leave the other side clean for my face or whatever. The other end will be wet if i can find a lake, pond or water cooler. I know you shouldn't take water from the cooler but that is all you have sometimes.
Spit is a good alternative and I do that way to much to clean my clubs. But you to aim high because your mouth is below your eyes.

I just use the towels that fall out of non-hackers bags on the course.
Sounds like most of em must be from hotels...originally.

He's not joking!
There are a bunch of shallow kids here who actually think that way. Luckily they usually end up growing up to be decent people or too poor to play the courses I play. 'Cause I certainly don't meet any golfers who actually think this way.

I use an Adidas Towel I got free at Golf Galaxy for test driving an R7 460 that I had no intention of buying. They were giving them away at a TMAG night.
I am ashamed to admit it has a grommet in the middle and is clipped to my Grom.
I was wondering why I haven't been able lower my single digit handicap.......it's the towel.

To each his ownm, I guess. I have a towel (with grommet) for my face. I have a little Clean Swing towel (also with grommet) that I use to wipe dirt, sand or mud from the clubs after use. Both are attached to my bag (on the clip that bag manufacturers such as Ping, Titleist, and all the others apparently think are standard features). I'm curious about any golfer who has opinions of others based on towel style. But even more curious about anyone who would care what anyone else thinks.

I've had great success with those small gray microfiber towels (probably a shade under a square foot) Target sells in their auto parts section. It fits easily into the elastic loop on my stand bag, and it's small enough to tuck into my back pocket while putting. That microfiber stuff is miraculous -- it cleans very effectively with just a little bit of water, so I don't need to get it soaking/dripping wet.
I keep a small stash of cheap white washcloths in the bag for my face/neck on hotter days.

I'm glad to see I'm not alone with the bath towels. Only way to go IMO. The small overpriced name brand golf towels are borderline useless in comparison. I just swipe the older towels from the bathroom and toss them in my trunk.
That guy in this thread who said "the clip on towel is a sign of a hack" really isn't too far off. You guys bashed him, but that's what the hacks tend to have. I would take a guy with a bath towel draped over the clubs vs another guy with a clip on name brand in a blind golf bet anyday(all other things equal)
edit: OOPS, didn't mean to bump a year old thread
