Anybody own both the leather sole Classic Dry Premier and the Tour Classic? If so, which do you prefer ?
I've worn the Classic's for years and am considering trying the newer Tour sole.
MrParr1Noid
The leather soled Premiers are more sturdy, they hardly roll from side to side, if any, the best support for any shoe going. The Classics are more of a soft sole with good cushion and less support. It depends mostly on what a guy needs in the way of more support or more cushion for their feet.

I like them both even though my foot profile doesn't really require the firm support of the Premiers but I do like that solid feeling that they give me.

Good Luck

Appreciate it Ram, that link is helpful.
Do you agree with the guy who said the Tours fit sloppy after a few rounds of wear ?

No problem, I saw this thread going in the same direction as mine, so I figured I would save you the trouble/waiting.

I wouldnt say they fit sloppily, they werent very comfortable initially though, and very hard to put on without damaging the cuff. The best way I can describe it is like wearing someone elses shoes. I sarted off with just range sessions to break them in, and started wearing them on the course once they loosened up.

I think that for most of us buying classics, its for the look, not the performance. They do look great though, and I will admit that my buying of them was biased to what looked the best even though I didn't want it to be.

I walk/practice about 5 times a week, and during the summer vacation 7, so for me the classics ae a lot harder to maintain than maybe some dryjoys or ecomforts. My biggest complaint is the feeling I get on about the 15th hole where certain spots on my feet start hurting, this may be due to the sole being softer than that of the premieres, or just my sweaty feet getting blistered, and more than likely my uneven distribution of weight throughout my feet.

If you ride, there is no problem at all and you will love these shoes, they really are comfortable with the leather soles, and you shouldn't have problems with comfort and durability.

I understand it would be hard to try both of these on as they are nearly impossible to find on shelves, but I would say go with the premieres. They look better IMO and they have the pebble grain that is much sturdier than the fragile calfskin on my classics.

***these are very comfortable shoes, I hope I didnlt give you the wrong idea.

I know about Classics, Classic Dry's, and Classic Dry Premiers, because over the years I've owned pairs of these shoes. Each of these models had/has the leather outsole.

My question is about the Classic Tours, which have a rubber outsole , different from all the other previous Classic models. In the other thread a poster said he felt the Tours fit sloppy compared to other Classic models.

Oh. Well with regards to comparing I can't help you, as i've only had the pair I curently have.

But I think it would depend on how sensitive your feet are, he may think that and be somone that is used to stiff shoes. IDK, they are well put together, so I guess what is meant by "sloppy" is floppy and moving around all the time..? In that case its all about getting the right size and width I would think.

Good luck finding your answer, frozen_rope

Compared to the Dry Premieres....

The last on the Classics Tours is a little wider in the forefoot.

Tours are more rigid soled, have less twist/torque.

Tour soles are thicker, thus a little higher off the ground.

Tours do better long term in the wet.

Tours don't break-in as much as the leather soles do.

IMO, Tours aren't as nice looking---don't remind of a bench made shoe.

I have both, wear both, like both.

premieres take long to walk in and you will prob get ablister or two? Tours are great for 36 holes in a day they are much softer and definately will become sloppy.
frozen_rope
"Sloppy" in the shoe business refers to the upper material losing its shape. For example, a new shoe might offer a nice snug fit but after some wear the leather upper starts to lose its shape a bit and the fit on your foot becomes "sloppy".
Which shoe do you have? The Classic Dry Premier (a leather outsole with a pieces of black rubber stitched to the ball (front) and heel areas ?
Or is yours the Tour, with the all black rubber outsole ?

Other posters here have given me the answers I was looking for, so I am covered. Appreciate your help too.

i have 1 pair premier, 1 pair tours. the premiere's only come out for a cclub round and cart. the tours are PHENOMENAL!!! All the great looks of the premier w/out the worry of ruining the leather with water.
Would not be sloppy if i had taken better care of the leather (waxing it once amonth instead of 3 months like i did). but I LOVE them. Only shoes more comfortable are my Ecco Flexors, which are my walking shoes.
hope this helps.

Asleep,

That sale has some great deals. Classics at $149 is a true value. Unfortunately my best fit is a 12.5, which Footjoy will produce, but only on a special order basis. So I am out of the loop for the close-out and, or, blem deals.
