I was watching some old video from callaway yes video, and there he was the next big thing in golf Ty Tyron, callaway sponsored product's from head to toe but where is he now. cool.gif

Hard to find out.

Sounds like a mighty disappointment although I like his swing on Golf Digest swing sequences. Leadbetter is on there describing it as the Taj Mahal.

That may of course be the Taj Mahal restuarant in Barnsley though...

According to Wiki:

William Augustus "Ty" Tryon IV (born June 2, 1984) is an American professional golfer who was touted as a child prodigy, but is yet to make a major competitive impact in the sport.

Tryon was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. He swings right-handed. He was coached at the David Leadbetter Academy in Florida. He turned professional in 2001 at the age of 16, causing some controversy as it is usual for future American golfers to attend college before turning pro. He was touted as an exceptional talent, but is yet to deliver on that. In 2001, he made the cut at the PGA Tour's Honda Classic, making him the third youngest player ever to make the cut in a PGA Tour event (16 years, 9 months, 7 days).

Tryon did survive the full grind of qualifying for the PGA Tour in the fall of 2001, making his way through all three levels of elimination events, to become, at age 17, the youngest player to earn exempt status in this manner. Following his qualification, he signed a lucrative endorsement deal with Taylor-Made, estimated in the several millions of dollars.

However, Tryon has failed to hold onto PGA Tour status, struggling in his first full Tour season in 2002. He has spent time on several other tours. His first professional win came at a NGA Hooters Tour event in February 2005. In 2007 he was playing on the Gateway Tour. He is married with a child.

His nickname Ty is derived from a character in the movie Caddyshack, starring Bill Murray.

he finished T37 at last week's N-Wide tournie, earning a cool $2750

I must admit the swing sequence on Golf Digest is one that I come back to regularly and really like.

Not sure what happened to Tryon and I know there has been a number of threads on here over the years but good luck to him.

I'd be interested to know what is happening with him and whether he still sees Leadbetter and what is going on with his game and aspirations.

Married with a child? How old is this kid now?

Yikes! Tony Romo shot a 75 in his attempt to qualify.
powerchild33
I actually watched him play a little bit at last week's Fort Smith Classic Nationwide event. Still has a nice swing, but if you can't cut that course up, something is amiss. I've watched the likes of Camillo, Bubba W., Chris Couch, Zack Johnson, and others completely dice it up there and look where they're at. Also, the winner this year, Colt Knost, look for big things with him, very nice swing and game.

married with a kid??? damn, he better start making some serious money now to start taking care of his baby mama. crazy.gif

The Wiki article above said he was born in '84 so he would be 23 or 24, plenty old enough to have knocked up some broad and been pushed down the aisle with a shotgun in your back russian_roulette.gif

Nicely worded.

You ever think he might not be able to pitch, chip, or putt worth a lick? ohmy.gif
hacker17
Well, at least he's still playing and making some money. That's a whole heck of a lot more than I can say.

A little update on Ty: I watched him today for about 6 holes at the Cox Classic on the Nationwide Tour. Honestly, it was sort of brutal. Champions (Cox Classic course) is a course that these guys absolutely eat up, and is where Jason Gore shot a 59 a few years ago. Ty carded a +8, 79 on day one and was tied for last place. He was then +4 when I left him today. Ty was all over the place off the tee which made it pretty hard to attack any greens and when he was on them his putting was lacking. I can think of two 3-putts I saw in those 6 holes. Anyway I hope Ty can get things back together, it was hard to watch him struggle today. Best of luck Ty.

Not sure if he is married or not, but I do know he knocked up a Hooters waitress at a Hooters event. I would think that would take the wind out of any young pro. Hope the kid gets his game back.

Hey! I watched him for a little while yesterday, and yes, I will agree
Tmiller72
He Monday qualified for a Nationwide event, no small feat. He must still have some sort of game left. I saw him yesterday and thought his swing looked great. Not sure why he shot such bad scores this week.

Nice article kemau. Thanks.
bulldog8b
Interesting, thanks for the article kemau. It really is strange that somebody can have enough talent to qualify for the PGA Tour at 16 and then just fall apart. I guess if you get too caught up in everything that goes w/ it that is what happens. But it is just amazing that he can't just put his mind to it and play his way back. You would think w/ that much talent it wouldn't be a problem. ARe you listening Mr and Mrs. Wie?
