no..confident and proud clapping.gif

Maybe a little, but he can back it up. He's a classy guy and a talented golfer, hopefully between him and Adam Scott, Tiger will finally have some competition.
Bomb and Gouge
I don't know if he's cocky but he's awfully proud of that belt buckle.

I would say more confident than cocky. He seemed humble enough in his post round interview on CBS. I didn't see the press room interview. But he
sure has game, I hope he continues to play well.
mkoreiwo
I think he got tagged last year as being cocky - but learned his lesson. IMHO he's trying to improve his image since he believes (and probably rightly so) he is going to be a big winner on tour and wants to have a fan base as opposed to enemies wherever he plays.

He is confident. But the kid has the game to back it up. I think he has the mindset to become a real factor on the tour. You've GOT to believe in yourself out there or you'll never put it together!
soundofatrain
He struts around like a rooster wink.gif But hey we need more personalities in golf, especially ones with serious game.
laseranimal
does it REALLY matter?

Tiger said this year he thought he could win the calendar grand slam, thats an incredibly cocky statement considering nobodies EVER done it, but he's got the game. So long as you have the game, you can be a touch arrogant. If you don't then you look like Rory or Woody.
xan_user
not as much as vijay on 17!

I had a blast watching live 17th hole action on the pc. Got to see that pros are humman too.
divot46
He's only 22. As I recall, kids that age tend to be a bit cocky when they are good at something. If I had that swing I'd probably be a bit cocky myself. But he seems to handle himself well. Shows an air of reserved confidence. It's good for the game to have kids like him coming up.
jtitleist12
I think there is a fine line between cocky and confident, especially on the PGA Tour. That being said, at only 22 years old, he has a world of talent and I think there will be many more wins for him moving forward. He definitely backed it up yesterday with his win. I thought it was also nice that he acknowledged that he wasn't in the right frame of mind last year and didn't practice as hard and take the game as seriously as he needed to.
jbombardieri
Not that I am saying he is great, not yet, but most great athletes/winners have some degree of being cocky.

Jordan, Woods, A-Rod, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Jerry Rice, Pedro Martinez, Kobe, Curt Schilling, Mark Messier, Cal Ripkin, etc.
dugak
No, not at all. I saw him tee off last year Congressional and before doing so... he was passing out water to the fans around the tee box.

Nice gesture.

That acknowledgement is why I think he'll be very successful on the Tour. He realizes that the Tiger work ethic will be the difference between him and other talented contenders challenging TW. The fruits of this victory will, hopefully, ensure the lesson is learned. I like the kid. He acknowledged the crowd's support in the last couple of holes well, and manned up to his previous shortcomings. Keep working hard, Anthony!

I think somebody needs to be cocky to challenge Tiger. I'd say the kid is a little cocky, but I think it's a good thing. You gotta go to the level of the best to be the best.
dlygrisse
If I had his swing I would be cocky, now if he could only putt like he did last week on a consistant basis.......
Ward
why wouldn't he be cocky? because he just outplayed some of the best players in the world fair and square by a large margin, and also won himself over a million bucks in less than one week?
attitudes make this game more fun to watch.

balata22
I agree with what you say. Tiger is now on notice and may be thinking, why didn't i think of the "TW" belt buckle. A "TW" buckle would have pushed him to 1 billion dollars years ago instead of having to wait until 2010. Too bad tiger doesn't enjoy the bling blang. Just posting for giggles on my day off... man_in_love.gif rolleyes.gif

I think this was mentioned during the last round. I caught about an hour of the tourney and the commentators mentioned something about Kim growing up a lot within a year.

On a side note -- Kim reminds me of that guy from Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. Remember that Korean dude from the party, "Who wants some buddaaaahhhhh..." cheesy.gif

Hope So ! he's got game !!!

I didn't get the impression that he was cocky at all. I think its just the media that keeps spewing that stuff. I'm glad he finally got his first win. A lot of the 20's are starting to win this 2008 season. Good to see the new guys coming up and present a real challenge to the top guys who win every week.
masuwari
Does anyone know if Anthony Kim has a swing coach/teacher? I'm wondering if he's completely self taught. If so, he has every right to be cocky.

Yeah he does...Adam Schrieber...since he was 15 --based on the post interview.

I just wrote about him in his Ryder Cup thread. He comes off a little rough, but being a young golfer myself I just can't shrug the fact that he's really cool. I'm not sure if we need another cool customer or a unifying personality in the international competitions.

Great game, one win under his belt. As the zen master says, "We'll see."
playar32
Nah. I think he is very cock. Went down to the Honda Classic earlier this year, stood behind the 16th tee for a couple hours, watched a lot of the pros come by. The 16th hole is a dog-leg right, water up the right side, so most people do not want to go right. Anyway, this kid comes up, guess hes having a bad day or whatever, takes his adams hybrid, hooks the heck out of the ball, not even finished with the bad swing, takes the club and throws it like 20 yards and just walking, made the caddy pick it up. I guess he and his caddy have a good relationship or something, cause even I was ready to fight AK.
Swingtheclub
His temper problems have been discussed and how he has managed to take control of them.

Whats not to be confident rather that is cocky or not I have no idea. I do not see him running his mouth or calling Tiger out (aka Jason Day)

I just think the kid is eat up with game if he controls his emotions his career could be really interesting maybe even great.

I would be too, that thing is sick.
Anyways, I never got the impression that he was that cocky, just a cool 22 year old kid. Is there a certain incident that everyone is referring to? I do remember the story about him being on the range and tiger staring at his belt buckle and AK responding, "well they dont put my initials on a hat yet."
scs1070
If I had 1.2 million in the bank and was 22....My Buckle would say a lot more than A K.
oo1oo
No he said "Nike doesnt make this Yet" to tiger. referring to his belt buckle.
birdiemachine11
Probably the cockiest guy I have ever heard. So cocky in fact, Golf Digest did an article a while back on his cockiness.
tbowles411
Last year, I would have said, "Definately." He was too cocky last year. He had a decent year, but not as good as he could have had. This year he was linked up with some great players and people who taught him how to conduct himself inside and out of the ropes. He's toned it WAY down and is much more humble that last year.
Lefty44
I don't think that cockiness is a bad trait to have for someone like him. I think most of you are thinking of a trait more along the line of arrogance, which I don't think he has. He is definitely sure about himself but it isn't like he's out there insulting and belittling others.
PutteditOB
He's got just what he needs to rise to the top. Tiger came off as cocky, though tiger was a bit more accomplished.
DBake
I remember walking behind him at the U.S. Public Links two summer ago. I would say that he is cocky, but what I didn't like about him was his spitting of chew all over the course (including the putting green).
mont86
No more then any other NFL player..
Baycal92510
I think he has done great. You have to believe in yourself to succede at that level. He stated many times after the win that last year he was a kid and that now he understands now how much it takes to win at the tour level. He is the youngest to win on tour for a long time and that says a lot. For my money i'll have any young american player win any champonship. We need those young guys.... He's stepped up and i'm a fan of that.
floyd
He is a little but no more than Tiger when he was that age.

hahahaa totally agree

I don't think he's cocky or arrogant, just confident and carefree. My opinion is that some people expect him to act or dress a certain way, like the majority of robot golfers on tour, and this is seen as being cocky. Sure, he proudly wears a belt buckle that says "AK" but he's 22 years old and one of the great up and coming golfers. If I was his age, hit the ball as far as he did, and had the talent to win a PGA tournament, I'd try to differentiate myself from some of the other everyday pro golfers. I'd much rather wear one of his outfits than one worn by Duffy Waldorf. Also, my observation of other golfers interacting with him during tournaments leads me to believe that they genuinely like him. Someone mentioned witnessing a club-throwing at a tournament. Well, to me, that's just him being bratty, not cocky. Plus, I seem to recall a number of club slams and obscenities from Tiger, yet he is not labeled as a cocky golfer, just a supremely confident golfer -- there is a difference.

Anthony's post round interview was perfect; he thanked the people who supported him and appeared to be very gracious. Hopefully, that interview will help to dispel the belief that he's an egotistical, cocky, golfer.

Its how you handle defeat that makes the quality of a person to come out.
Winning, then its easy to be smooth wink.gif

And the tour needs more people who evoke emotions, the boring tourpro´s with nothing special out there are not fun to watch.
Golf is slow as hell as it is.

5 hours+ to make 18 hole, come on?

Very true.

The same people who bring you the Golf Channel will be bringing you the "Watching Paint Dry Channel". Let's hope there are some Tour players with both confidence and good character that will allow us to tell the difference.

I'm down with a little cockiness and some self-directed emotion, as long as it doesn't turn into the WWWF, or whatever they call it now.
