I had one of the best golf experiences of my life a few weeks ago and I thought I'd share a few pics.

I was on a Caribbean cruise and one of the ports of call was Belize. There was a golf excursion available and the pro onboard the ship said I would regret it if I didn't go. He was right.

Caye Chapel is an island that consists of 18 holes of great golf and a small runway. Golfer's paradise. There are 10 villas on the island for guests but I was just there for the day.

Once we got off the boat in Belize, the golf pro Billy got us into a cab and we went to a little airport. We then got in a 12 person plane and took off on a 15 minute flight to Caye Chapel. When we landed, our golf carts were waiting for us on the runway. The course was in great shape and can be very difficult depending on the tradewinds (slope 139).

Needless to say there was water on every hole, lots of ponds as if the sea wasn't enough.

One of the pictures is of me preparing to hit my second shot on a par 5 while standing on the sea wall. I thought about chipping out to the fairway but then I thought "I will never get another chance to hit this shot."
I ended up parring the hole so it was mission accomplished.

All in all it was an unforgettable day.

Hey guys,

I thought I'd post a few more pics.

I shot 82 which is pretty average for me (7 index) but it was a pretty demanding course off the tee. On almost every hole there is sea on one side and water hazards on the other. The wind was down when I was there which helped, except for the heat. Apparently the wind is what keeps the heat bearable, it was about 100 degrees.

The clubhouse is very beautiful from the outside, you can see it in the first pic.

The last two pics are of the beach area, which is not too far from the 18th green. After my group finished we drove the cart to the dock you see in the pics and took off our shoes and shirts and jumped in the sea. Now that's the way to finish off a round of golf.

If you look closely in the pic of the beach you can see a pelican in mid flight right in the center of the photo

Enjoy:

Looks like an awesome trip!

When we go to Cozumel, we love to golf in the morning and snorkel in the afternoon. Might have to sneak south to Belize for a day or 2 next year.

I went to high school in Hawaii, and I visited Cofu (Greece) after college, but the water in Belize looks incredible.

My wife went snorkeling while I was golfing and had a great time. Apparently the Belize barrier reef is the second largest in the world next to Australia. As far as the water, it was so clear, we saw some stingrays from the plane and from the golf course.
dirtyboy
The reef starts in Cozumel and goes south to Honduras about 1200 miles.

Awesome stuff!

Man am I jealous. That is beautiful. Just a question if you don't mind me asking. What did that excursion cost you (obviously on top of the cruise)?
jmac35
The cruise line was Carnival and the cruise was the Western Caribbean (stops in Panama -- golfed there also -- Costa Rica and Belize)

The day trip for golf was $250 which included the transportation (taxi, plane) and green fees. Club rental was $30 I think. So it wasn't cheap but everyone I talked to out of the 12 of us thought it was a deal at the end of the day.

The surprisingly good value would be if you could get a group together and go there for a week or so. You can get one of their small villas with two bedrooms that sleeps 4 for $350 per night (plus taxes and gratuities) during low season April 16 - Dec. 14. That price is for the entire villa, not per person. It also includes unlimited golf, carts and club rental.
Caye Chapel

Keep in mind that the course is never busy, the beach is never busy and there are volleyball courts, lawn bowling and pools for kids. TVs have satellite.

Our golf pro said Bill Gates has rented the entire island for a vacation before -- $10,000 per day. He also said that Tiger brought his yacht to the island before. Strange thing is, he said that he didn't think Tiger golfed. Maybe he was just checking it out, the island was for sale last year for $65 million. biggrin.gif

Less than $300 for golf and the puddle jump sounds like a steal!

1 word - Sick!

That is unreal. How did you even play golf. It would have taken me 8 hours to finish b/c I would have been too busy staring at the scenery.

Wow. Amazing shots of the island/course from the air.. definitely worth the $250 in my opinion. Awesome stuff..
