If Trevor Immelman were to win every major this year

1.) What would it do for golf's image in society?

2.) Would the media still talk about how Tiger should have gotten it?

3.) Would Immelman's easy going demeanor turn fans off and lack in getting new fans to watch?

4.) How would Nike promote it, with Tiger in the shadows and all?

Any other things that you want to add, please do. Just interested to see what people think about a guy like Immelman winning the Grand Slam.

Sorry, but it will just never happen.

Aside from that, Nike would promote it the way it is. In the end its a company that would earn money. A grand slam alone will not make a superstar thou. In terms of marketing value, there is just nothing like Tiger - marketing value consists very little of the actual performance in itself rather than having that personality and the looks to go with (look as Jesper Parnevik, he plays rarely at all anymore and if he does, he plays not on a world class level anymore, but he can still afford living next to Tiger and the likes in one of the biggest houses there). It's the image that sells and Immelman or whoever will not create that over night.

If Trevor Immelman were to win every major this year

1.) What would it do for golf's image in society? Not much i dont think much would change at all.

2.) Would the media still talk about how Tiger should have gotten it? , I think the coverage on the masters seeing Tiger wasn't really in the hunt was poor enough over here in OZ, if tiger wasnt shooting low, they coverage was full of commentry and to be honest im sick of seeing people PUTT and More PUTTS, id like to see the long irons and approach shots , more than a putt !

3.) Would Immelman's easy going demeanor turn fans off and lack in getting new fans to watch? being relaxed can only help your game, he obviously has a relaxed attitude and it shows

4.) How would Nike promote it, with Tiger in the shadows and all? NIKE would stay as they are i'm sure TW has some kind of clause that he's their #1 just as in F1 He'r Schumacher was their # 1 and no one else got a look in , for years !

And trust me Immelman as good as he was this week, wont win all the Majors this year id bet my life on that one, it just wont happen

I personally think it would do wonders for Nike if Trevor were to win the Grand Slam, however unlikely. I understand that outside of Golf connoisseurs Trevor is still relatively unknown, but he has everything he needs to be marketable - the classic good looks, the swing that's been compared to Hogan's, the South African accent and mystique, and the right personality. Nike already has an incredible stable of golfers, but if Trevor were to win the Slam, they would have the two premier players in the game wearing and playing their products - yes the image is what sells, but for someone to achieve what has widely been considered impossible (in the modern are), the potential for marketability is immense.

P.S. In response to #4, Tiger will never be in the shadows, someone who transcends the game like he does, will never fade, he'll go from being a champion to a legend of the game, a la Nicklaus, Palmer, etc.

If I'm at the helm at Nike, I'm thrilled with how the "major season" has already begun. Nike 1, 2, and 3 at the Masters. Now if Tiger wins the PGA as usual and the British, and any one of the others wins the US open (Immelman, Cink, CHoi, Leonard, Casey, Ames, etc.) Nike would be over the moon. It would almost be a better advertising opportunity than if Tiger won it. Tiger is supposed to win everything, he could break 80 using a shovel and a rake, but if the Nike stable of athletes wins the Grand Slam with a little help from Tiger...well then....IT MUST BE THE CLUBS AND BALLS!

Just my opinion

I heard something very disturbing last night...my local sports caster said that Tiger ALLOWED Trevor to win. And then the station went on to show 4 or 5 highlights of Tiger and ONLY ONE of Trevor. Trevor has game but not like Mr. Woods. The nice smile and calm deameanor cannot compete the fire in the EYE OF THE TIGER. A Grand Slam should not even be considered as long as Tiger is playing on the PGA Tour. Tiger is the only one that can do it...unless we can breathe youth back into The Golden Bear. As far as Nike, anyone recall that Nike really did not even make clubs until Tiger. Tiger is always out in front or lurking in the background (just like a Tiger) when it comes to tournaments, Nike commercials, etc. How many times have you seen a Nike commercial and eventhough Tiger is not in the commercial all you can think about is Tiger (not Cink or Trevor or whoever). One more thought, why do we expect Tiger to win when he is 7 back with 9 to play? Because he can do it and whether people like it or not he wants it more and he is not afraid of winning. Anyway, Trevor won the Masters and he played great golf. I am a Tiger fan but it really irritates me when we focus on the loser and the mistakes that he made instead of the winner and how well he played. A quote from Mr. Woods " Second place is the first loser".
