Hi guys. I am planning to buy a face balanced mallet putter to replace my SC Newport 2.

I tried out Ping Redwood Piper and liked it a lot. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if Wrxers could recommend any other face balanced mallet putters.

Also, it would be great if the owners of Ping Redwood Piper could give a brief review about this putter.

I am 5'9" and like the 33" putter but the Ping fitter strongly suggested that I should go with 34". Is 33" too short for me?

Thanks a bunch.

the bettinardi bc-3 is on my radar as a mallet, and a back up to my other betty. i would check it out before pulling the trigger.

I really like my Gauge Design (Japan) Leap M.....a little odd looking, but it really rolls the ball well.

To me the Rife Barbados is the best.

2nd that! The Rife Barabados is the best feeling putter I have ever putted with. Perfectly balanced, great weight and true roll. The grooves are amazing...absolutely no skid. BTW, I'm 6'1" and 34" is a tad toe up for me. I felt a little too hunched with the 33", but you get the bending tool to make your own lie adjustments. Your height and putter length do not necessarily correlate, get properly fitted to be sure which length is best for your stroke (which it sounds like you've done).

Another vote for the Rife Barbados.

You should try a Zomo 23 Prototype. Super Nice! PM me for details.

for those that like and have the barbados..

the new hybrid 2 bar hybrid is BETTER!

i had the barbados last summer and didn't like it.. the feel didn't go over well with me and i wished it was heavier.

the new hybrid is freaking sweet.. heavy and adjustable. the new insert grooves are the best feeling insert i have felt so far.

i was in the market and was looking at the spider, the new pings, and the new odyssey putters.

but after many trials i just love the feel and balance of the hybrid.

I am not a fan of mallets, but tried the RIFE Barbados for a few days and it almost made me switch. IF I was in the market the RIFE would be it for me.

I think I'm down to choosing between the Spider and the Hybrid RIFE.

Second that. I'd like to try a face-balanced mallet, and both of those have piqued my interest.

Best Face Balanced Mallet putters IMO:

Odyssey Marxman

Ping Craz-e I series

Spider

Too bad these aren't around anymore. Gauge Japan Tubu. In a way I'm glad. I won't trade her.

The Yes! Valerie is very nice.

Just gamed my new spider today. It's pretty awesome.
All of the suggestions above are great. Just go with what feels best to you.
SPIDER LOVE!!!!

I'm in the same boat...looking to switch from my C03 to a face balanced mallet.

I actually liked the Karsten Piper over the Redwood. Looks better at address, but the black finish on the Redwood is NICE!

Others still on the list:

SC Red X3
Mizuno BC3
Mizuno C05
Rife Barbados
Yes Valerie

Also looking into the Mizuno QA-5 on TSG - just can't find any info on it. Plus I hate buying something I can't even try...

Let us know if you pull the trigger on the Redwood and how it works out.

Mizuno/Bettinardi C-05, my first face balanced putter, love it! Great feel and easy roll.

I'd vote for the Rife 2-Bar.
