Just as the topic asks, do you always keep an umbrella in your stand or staff bag? Or do you carry it when you know you'll have bad weather?

I leave it in the car unless the forecast is for rain or it looks like it could blow up during the round. I always pack my rainsuit however because here in Nebraska the weather can change quickly especially in the spring.

Heck no. It weights the bag down to much to carry it all of the time.

Another question relating to umbrellas: Which brand do you carry? Do you match it to your irons, driver, putter, bag? Why do you carry the umbrella that you carry?

I keep as little in my bag as possible. I only carry an umbrella if the forecast warrants it, otherwise it's in the car.

I carry mine whenever it looks like its going to rain. I just buy whatever is the biggest for the least amount of money (and it has to be a decent brand).

You shouldn't be playing in the rain anyway, your clubs will rust.

I've never owned one. If it rains I just go in a have a beer or two until it quits

Never had to golf in the rain.....I mean, it is southern CA and all. We only have fires and earthquakes. So those who do golf in rain, do you just carry the thing over your head all day long except when you are taking a swing? It seems like you'd get wet enough in your setup and swing time to make an umbrella almost useless.
if you can't already figure it out, I don't have a golf umbrella. I used to use one of my dad's golf umbrellas while walking to elementary school because the thing could keep a whole group of kids dry since it's so huge.

In Southern California, so 99.9% of the time, no. If the weather looks like it might drop, then I bring along my preferred choice of rain jacket (and sometimes pants) that day, along with my bag cover.

HEy Ward, long time no talk to...
When I lived in Norther California I would carry my umbrella in my car. It's really just usefull when you are standing around on the course or waiting to hit your ball either off the T or in the fairway. When you are hitting your ball, you keep the umbrella open, but over the top of your clubs- which should have their cover too.
I think the umbrellas are really only used in the same fashion as many rain suits carried with bags, a what if, or just in case... A lot of us have gone to play with the CHANCE that it could rain, and I don't know anyone that would stop their round because of rain.
My bag is light, so I was wondering how unusual it would be to always carry it with me...

I'm either in a cart or pulling a trolley, so I keep it with me always. If I had to walk and carry the bag, it wouldn't be in there. I'd probably leave a couple clubs too! The umbrella doesn't match the bag. It's a green umbrella and I've got a black and yellow bag. The umbrella was part of a starter set that had a green bag. I'm not inclinded to buy a new umbrella for the sake having it match the bag. I don't think I've ever used an umbrella on a course.

It's in the car....only carry it if I feel it might rain.
I carry so less junk = better.
As for brand....you can't go wrong with the gustbuster...I've had too many umbrellas turn inside out on me, so 100km+ rating for the gustbuster will assure that doesn't happen to me every again!
I'd like to say it doesn't match my bag/OEM brand.....but sadly it does.

I carry mine at all time. In IL in the summer heat you never know when a storm may brew up. Doesnt weight that much more to carry it.
I have the Titleist umbrella that I got from my Titleist rep years ago when I was working at a golf shop. He ordered it along with my staff bag.

i don't carry it with me all the time, only when it looks like it might rain. i used to use a pull cart all the time, and then i'd always carry it.
mine's all black with no logos and a double canopy model (and of course obnoxiously large), and i guess it matches my bag and headcovers which are also all black (except a little white on the headcovers) no logos, but obviously not my equipment.
for what it's worth, i love to play in the rain. as long as i've got my rain gear, i'm all set.

All I know is that if you do have an umbrella in your bag, it BETTER be a full size one.
One time I played golf with a supposed "golf guy" who whipped out one of those little fold up ones that expands when you push the button on the handle....I walked off the course on the spot.

In the States, I always have it with me. I've been caught too many times with a sudden quick shower. Here in the PI, I try to leave it at home. Chances are I'll get a lady caddy who cares more about staying in the shade than doing her job. Plus, they have a tendency of breaking them.
I usually walk so, no. I always have my rain gear. I found the umbrella to be more of a pain in the a$$ than it's worth, if I'm waking that is. If I'm carting, I'll put it on my bag. You know your going the get rained on in the summer here.( S Florida)

A poser is someone who tries to be something he is not. I've heard poser being used to describe high handicappers who use a staff bag (since they're "posing" as a pro and are clearly not).
I have no idea how someone can be a poser for having an umbrella when it rains though. That doesn't make any sense. If you spent $175 on a tour-only TP umbrella, you might get called a poser.

I almost always carry my bag, and most always have my rain jacket and pants. More compact, weighs less than an umbrella (or seems to, anyhow), and I guess now with the added bonus that I don't look like a poser.

I bought a big ol' Nike one to match my bag and used it only once in a best ball outing I was in. It usually sits in my car because if it's raining out I'm not going to play anyway.

No, I think it adds unnecessary weight to the bag. I usually check the forecast the night before a match.
