Just did his impression of Philly Mick. russian_roulette.gif
soberguy16
omg that was hilarious...im sorry
golf9596
The post round interview was great..."I'm a chok'n Dog"
tdub526
At least he was honest in the interview and said that he choked.
Skaffa77
That was tough to watch (any golfer do)...but then again it's the first time I've seen Woody without his usual "foot-in-month" comments. Funny thing, golf...can humble anyone...
RRyders88
might wanna put spoiler in the thread title, not that many people probably care about this tournament but i was laughing my a** off at him, looks sooooo good on Woody. Guy is a complete tool.
Andariego
Don't forget how well Woody plays this game. He's competing at the highest level. His goofy ultra competive mindset probably helped him get to this level, but unfortunately it knocks him down too.

But I must say, I've never seen a tour pro hit a full shot that bad. He almost whiffed it!
mailman
Hey folks, I don't think Cink should have been DQ'ed. Exceptions to rule 13-4-3 clearly state if the player makes a stroke from a hazard and the ball comes to rest in another hazard, rule 13-4a does not apply to any subsequent actions taken in the hazard from which the stroke was made
Bones01gt
He choked, but he made more money than I've ever made playing golf in the process.....probably most of you too...and he'll be at it again next week...where will you be? Watchin' on TV. I give the guy props for sayin' that he flat out choked on it...Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Woody fan by any means, but I won't hate on a guy who plays on that level with a less than desireable skill set. I bet he busted his a** to get where he is and I bet he was sick as hell coming up 18....but, it was pretty darn funny!!!

Is this the same guy that says he can take Tiger? those to shot decisions is what separates him Tiger. That hole gave him problems Friday, you would have thought he would have learned.
Mike_C
I would say something about Woody, but I hit a shot very much like that in our city championship last year. Thick rough, borderline casual water, tried to hit my hybrid, ball went about 15 feet............felt solid too....... blush.gif
Pinehurst1999
So I guess the Adams hybrid is not a great club if a pro can not get the ball out of the rough...then slices one 50 yards.
Swingtheclub
You know I have watched Woody for a while and have always liked him and always known the was a very good ball striker.

He is just another player that does not feel he putts well enough to win a lot.

But for him to say he choked the whole back nine, not just the first shot he missed on eighteen. Just goes to prove how honest this guys is.

I have no idea what he said about beating Tiger but face it he meant it the guy always says what he is thinking.

I think he was choking (not thinking clearly ) whe he let that stupid caddy talk him into hitting the hybrid from that lie in the first place. After that he was just done.

I know there are a lot of Woody haters on this forum. The Tiger fans hate anyone that even thinks he might could beat Tiger.

But honestly I find his honesty very refreshing.

Go get them next week Woody.
philfan316
You know that his brain was telling him to freak out and just do something really stupid to himself, but he just was laughing. He's so f'ed up in the head that he probably went to some really dark places while he was laughing at himself. He probably wouldn't even remember laughing if you showed him the tape.

Wherever Tiger was at that choke moment, probably banging with Elin, he paused and laughed for no apparent reason.

Wherever Phil was at that choke moment, probably banging with Amy, he paused and started to yell and throw up.

History will show that Tiger Woods is the best golfer of all time, but you all have to understand that for these guys to be in contention, they must believe that if they play their best that they CAN beat Tiger.... Woody trying to pull off that shot(I know Tiger wasn't in the field but he was trying to win)... O'Hair trying to shoot at a pin on 17 at the Players... guys going for the win is good for the game... period. Lots has been said about lots of guys being content w/ getting a good pay check and being content with PGA Tour mediocrity, hell most of us would trade places in a heartbeat, but all these guys that really want to win... GREAT FOR THE GAME good.gif
Bomb and Gouge
I'd be fine never hearing or seeing Woody Austin again. The guy is a first rate toolbox- IMO.
beachgrovejunior
I was laughing so hard when that happened, it was basicly "How Not to act when you need a birdie on the last hole 101"

So first he talks about how he doesnt want to slice a shot dead right, then whiffs it, then talks about how hes such a choking dog, then hits it dead right, hmmmm...

I wonder if he was thinking "If tiger was in the same spot I would have beat him" rofl.gif
Pinehurst1999
Se had a bad lie and a difficult situation...no need to beat him up over it, look at what Padrig did at the Open last year...now THAT was choking. Everyone has been there, I give him credit for handling it the way that he did.

I believe that was Jason Day, not Romero.

Good post Ken. good.gif

I don't see why people don't like Woody. He's so entertaining! Going for a swim last year and his reaction to the 72nd hole this past tourney. I think he took how things rolled pretty well. Kudos for accepting it like a man, it happens to everyone.
fireice
It was definitely quite the display by Woody, you have to figure he rethinking his club selection, twice right. If you missed it here's both shots.

I thought Woody was the one who wanted to hit the hybrid...it sounded like the caddy was trying to talk him out of the hybrid...he was like "well if you think you can get it in the air" in an unsure, hesitant tone...and woody said he thought he could get it in the air. so i wouldnt be calling that caddy stupid and saying he convinced woody to hit the hybrid. While I tend to root against woody because i think hes way too arrogant for what hes accomplished on tour, i did think his reaction to his meltdown was pretty funny...laughing it off and calling himself a choker. i respect him for that

by the way, was that briny farting just before he hit his 3rd into 18? it was pretty funny nonetheless
Swingtheclub
maybe I misunderstood but his caddy kept saying if he got it over the bunkers he would have and easy pitch.

I never mean to give total blame to a caddy but Woody's Caddy was no help to him.

I agree Woody did say he could get it airborne but it was a stupid shot .
PurePursuit
I like Woody Austin, despite his lack of an inner-monologue and painstaking facial gestures. He's entertaining because of those qualities, and these moments are tough to watch. I must admit that I do feel a little bit better watching a top PGA golfer have a blow up hole, reminds you that this game is hard and you aren't the only one who can sometimes fall victim to it.

upon watching again it souds to me like the caddy wanted woody to hit an iron and lay up to an 8 iron distance, but woody felt like his best chance of birdie was to hit hybrid and leave himself a pitch. i ultimately dont think hitting the hybrid was a bad decision...i think it was a good one he just didnt execute and choked. the 3rd into the water was just due to him having to take dead aim at that point...i dont blame woody for his decisions just execution.

Woody's comment on Tiger was that if Tiger acted disgusted or agrivated it
was labeled by the press as detirmination and if he did it, it was outlandish and
goofy. To my knowledge, he never said he could "take him".

the caddy was reinforcing a decision that Woody had already made, like he should...
jamesduncan
its amazing to hear these convos btw player and caddy.

last week, remember Tiger telling Stevie to pull him off the shot if the flag behind them changed?

Poor Woody.

I like that he went for it, but that lie looked nasty, even if it blamed it on himself.

I hope he doesnt beat himself up too much over this. Despite his own admission of playing badly, solid putting is nothing to scoff at on a sunday along with making a run at the posted number.

Good TV for sure!

Woody fell in that lake on purpose- IMO.

woody did say at the pga last year on saturday that he "outplayed tiger" even though tiger shot 63, and woody shot 70. You can laugh at him if you want, but how else are these guys supposed to act? If you THINK you cant beat someone you cant, period. Tiger walks onto the course, and many in the field just melt. More heatproof guys would make the tour more fun to watch.

Ogilvy said something similar (not as brazen, but similar in idealogy) when he won at doral. He said people think we are all just rolling over for tiger, but we are all trying to beat him. I love to watch tiger play, and i feel privileged to live in a day and age where he IS playing, but it would be better, and more fun if more of these guys would stand up to him, with their clubs not with words.

A-Train
How many of you would have gone for that green out of the rough on a side hill lie?
He could have birdied by laying up short of the bunkers and sticking his next iron close.

Interesting club/shot selection from a veteran looking for an overdue win.

It's definite loser talk, that's for sure. I've never heard Nicklaus, Tiger, or any top pro talk about how he choked, even he didn't pull off the shot he was trying.
