Anybody using the Face Off MacGregor? Any feedback?

I was set on getting the Karsten Piper - I have been thinking about picking up the Karsten for a week or two.

I went in the store with the intention of buying it...tried the other options - Redwood Piper, Red X, Barbados....and then...

I picked up the DCT 3 and I ended up getting that instead. Just felt really good. I am not a fan of inserts and soft putters with no sound BUT the face on this was just something else.

Anybody gaming this...let me know how you like it.

I'm planning on putting it in play this weekend if I get to hit the practice greens this week....

Only thing I was looking for was trying a face balanced putter - preferably a mallet - but oh well, I'll see how this one works out.

I hit the DCT putter a few times. I love the concept but the black face felt horrible. You can switch to the metal face and it feels better. I am curious to try the new DCT putters which will be released next week. They don't have the interchangeable faces but looks much better and they offer several models (some of which are face balanced) and the face is more of the metallic feel versus the soft feel. Just my 2 cents....

If your looking for a firmer metallic feel in the DCT series think again. The DCT series insert is basically the evolution of the HSM material that Bobby Grace has used for ages. it is basically the same material that is used for the mantel and core in golf balls. It may be on the firmer side compared to the original XG insert, but not firm enough to give it a metallic feel at all. The new DCT insert is defiantly softer than the black polymer insert on the "Face-Off" series. Think Cobra 2200 Softie insert with the DCT insert.

I have the face off blade and love it. The sweet spot is so huge that you don't have to worry about striking it on the face in one small spot and that has helped my putting quite a bit. I haven't used the polymer face however, the metal one seems to suit me better.

Hi guys!

I bought a DCT 1 "Plumber Neck" just a three weeks back as I like the concept of being able to change face depending on the speed of the greens. Usually I putt very well at the start of the season when greens are slow, but as soon as they get faster, my putting gets worse and I loose confidence. So I thought the polymer face should help me when the greens will get faster. I started with the metal face on my first outings around here. I live in Switzerland and my home course just opened on March 1. The metal insert is quite crisp but not as on my Newport 2 (with insert) or on my B60 BeCu, and I have done quite well with it on bumpy and slow greens just out of winter. Then for Easter weekend I went down to the French Riviera and played in Saint Endreol GC where greens are in very good shape and very fast (Mediterranean weather allows the course to remain fully open all year long and it had been quite windy in the past few weeks), so I changed the face to the polymer insert. The feel is a bit, let say, dull. It takes a bit of time to get use to it, but I found it works better (at least for me) on fast greens. I played rounds with both inserts and really preferred to play the polymer one on these speedy greens. I felt I had more control and that it was easier to roll the ball. All in all, I quite like the shape of the putter, its balance and the way it plays. Only drawback I see is I found that the quality of the finishing is not on par with my Scotty or my Ping. But in the end it is a 100 bucks less than the Scotty. It should stay in the bag for quite a while.

Cheers,
Easy

got to go on the putting green....

I dont think its going to make it in the bag...

tried both inserts and the putter is wonderful from 10 feet in...for 15-20 footers - it is hard to judge distance for lag putts.

I think its too light? I could try the heavier weight but just dont want to mess with it anymore.

I guess I gotta try the Karsten Piper again...

any other sugesstions - wanna try a face balanced fat blade or mallet - preferably no insert. I think Yes has one shaped like tis DCT face off.

Man..the Yes Donna is expensive! Might as well go SC squareback...

Trying not to spend too much here...want something under $150.

BTW, the face off is now down to $79.99 at Golfsmith. I just got it for $129 the other day...definitely going back but for $80 I might just keep it!
