How many of you addicts listen to XM Radio's PGA channel? I'm thinking about it, mostly because I've always liked Peter Kessler's command of golf lore (not necessariliy his delivery).

I listen more than I thought I would...mostly to tournament coverage.
But I can't stand Kessler's morning show. He has great guests, but he is so enamored with himself it drags the show down. Whether it's Peter trying to insert a 50 cent word when a dime word will do, using annoying phrases like 'good to hear the sound of your voice' or the annoying production habit of blasting the 'Take Five' over their guest 30 seconds prior to going to break it drives me up a wall.
He ends up coming across like an annoying pompous blowhard. If I wasn't a golfer and heard his show, it would reinforce snobby elitist attitude many non-golfers have about the game. I'd much rather hear a 'regular Joe' like ESPN radio's Steven Gribbin.

I, like mantan, listen to the tournament coverage. It's great to flip to when you want score updates, or to figure out where someone is on the course so you can determine how fast you need to drive to get home and catch the end of the player's round.
I agree that Kessler's show at times can be annoying. But everyone knows that Peter loves the sound of his own voice so he's going to talk as much as possible. I have to admit, I like the sound of his voice as well.

I work on the road and listen alot. I mostly listen to tourny coverage but like the new equipment show on weekends. I can only stand Peter Kessler first thing Monday after a tournament. But they repeat his show too much and it gets old.

The on course guy drives me nuts -not sure what his name is - he's the one that's all over Tiger's jock all day long. Sounds like hes calling a college football game. Other than that I enjoy not having to be in the house all day while still keeping up with the tournaments.

I always thought that PGA Radio was the only thing on XM that I wish Sirius had, until I listened to it. WOW what boring commentary! I guess it would be nice to have to get scores, but I'm afraid I would end up driving off a bridge listening to these guys announce golf.

Your talking about Michael Collins, I think.
I too listen to a good deal of the tournament coverage. I'll occasionally listen to DiMarco's show as well. Kessler puts me to sleep.

I listen a lot, every day at least some. I listen to Making the Turn all the time, and tourney coverage when I have the time. I like their tournament commentary as much as I like the TV people, maybe more.
As a rule I watch sports on TV without the commentary, so that I even like listening to any commentary is different.
I don't find Kessler pompous, maybe that's because I like golf history and respect his knowledge. I often find his guests bigger know-it-alls than he is.
He needs to interview more players, instead of other media people though. I get bored with the interviews of media people all the time. If I wanted to know what they thought, I'd go to their web sites.
Kessler should update his music, but Take Five is hardly a bad choice to end the show.

I do agree Take Five is a classic. It's more the ham handed producer who blasts it full bore rather than slowly fading it in. I know the guest can't hear it at all, but to the listener it is the radio equivalent of turning the lights on and shoving everybody out the door when the restaurant closes. You know the segment is ending. You have to fight through the music to listen to the guest's comments. It's gotten to the point I just hit another station as soon as the music starts.

Maurine Madill needs to be removed from their team. Her descriptions make me want to stab myself in the ears with a Q-Tip. It's like she's trying to make a Walt Whitman poem out of a freakin 3 inch putt.

They are proposing a "pick your lineup approach" from what I read in the Wall Street Journal the other day.
I listen to Kessler in the morning. I have to admit I turn him off in disgust some days. He definitely has a tendency to talk forever and basically leave his guests nothing to respond with except, "Yes Peter, I agree with you totally." When asking a question in an interview, it's generally a good idea to leave the person something to talk about. I cringe how he prefaces every response to his guests with, "Ya know, it's funny..." I do agree that he needs to expand his list of guests a bit. He has a great grasp of golf history, but it can get old listening to him try to work a Bobby Jones reference into any topic he might be discussing. He had Grant Boone on this morning (what a pompous tool that guy is) and he got noticeably impatient with Boone interrupting him when Kessler was trying to ask his epic-length questions. It was kind of amusing.
I generally like the personalities they have on the PGA Tour coverage. I really like having this in my car because I tend to always be playing golf on the weekends and I can keep on top of the scores a bit. I agree, Maureen Madill could wax poetic about one of the players stepping into a porta potty. Just a wee bit over the top.
Never seem to be in the car when Dimarco's show is on. Never heard that.
One beef: Lots of dead air time on the channel. Replay Dimarco's show on occasion or something instead of running the taped scoreboard reports and such.
Word to the wise:
I wasn't sure if I was going to re-up my XM subscription. I called to cancel and they asked why and I basically said I just thought it was too expensive for the year. They cut my subscription cost in half so that I wouldn't drop it. I understand they are having a hard time financially and they need every subscriber they can get.

I listen to tournament coverage mostly, occasionally hearing parts of Kessler's and DiMarco's shows. Trying to create a picture of the golf swing in the listener's mind is a difficult job and I think they all do a pretty good job. They can't show the scenery or anything else in between shots so they have to fill in with anecdotes and other observations and, overall, I enjoy listening to it.

Luv it, Luv it - Did I say I luv it?
Wanted to buy a ford this time but actually stuck with GM for the XM. I'm on the road all day looking at roads (construction) and listen religiously. Only beef I have was mentioned b4 - lots of dead air. Wish they would come up with something (old commentaries on past majors or something of the sort). Current coverage could use some tweaking, but overall just listening to golf keeps me in a calm mood most of the day.

Love it as well. But why on EARTH after 12pm do they rerun that stupid "the pga tour network is currently off the air..." over and over? I don't get to hear kessler since I am at work when he is on. Why not just re run all the different shows ALL day? What the heck is the difference. Is it a harder button to push after noon?

for the most part, i really like the pga on XM. i even don't mind maureen medill. but i wish they had more original programming. seems like there's only kessler, dimarco and the live coverage. does anyone know what kind of stuff they have on sirius?
Looked into it about a month ago (looked at a Ford). Only thing golf related I saw on their programming was a 1/2 hour or hour show on Saturday mornings. It was on one of their general sports channels. Did not sound real promising.
