So what have you other northerners been doing with snow on the ground? I've been putting in my living room, but that's about it. I bought a Launchpad to use with the laptop to play Tiger Woods, but its tedious and only measures swing speed. Lately, it's been too cold in the garage to even go out there to use it.

I saw some green grass the other day when the snow melted, and I had thoughts of visiting the range. Then we got another 6 inches. I've got the bug BAAAAD.

I picked up some new "projects" over the winter..... lately been getting them ready... reshafts and grips.... while I'm waiting for our snow to melt. Probably be another month till I'll be able to get outside and hit balls

Chicago seemed to get hit hard. Us northerner's are enjoying 34-40 degree weather, while in the south they are getting pummelled! russian_roulette.gif To get by, we here go to the dome and they have 750-900 sq ft putting area, which seems to roll about 10 or so. perfect for summer lol.

About 4 new inches of snow yesterday. I still haven't seen the ground in my yard. Doing some club-building to pass the time. I've got a new set to make for my son yet. A driver to build for my daughter-in-law's mother. And, a set of 3 forged wedges to build for MYSELF! It's been so crappy here it's hard to even get motivated to do that.

photobob
Yep, 7 new inches last night... <sigh>

One thing I did over the (continuing) winter was to build a swing trainer. My old beloved persimmon 3-wood split behind and parallel to the face last season. So I opened it up and added a few ounces of lead to the clubhead and glued it back together. Then I filled the shaft with BBs and closed that up. Bingo! A hundred-dollar, two-pound power hitter. Nice for stretching and slow-speed swinging indoors. Only tried a few full-speed swings, I'll be more comfy trying that outside.

Yeah, I'm bored...

I feel for you guys!

In California, we don't have an offseason.

Here in Wisconsin i was looking at grass on thursday and now I have a fresh 15" of snow to look at. Can this winter ever end?

I've been able to hit balls outside a couple of times the last 2 or 3 weeks. Last Thursday it was about 40 and windy, but strong sun, and had a great practice session. I figure once the courses open I'll be playing in that kind of weather anyway. Might as well get used to it.

Also putting in the living room, working out, and hitting balls in the dome. I got clipped by the storm that went through last night and only got about 3" of snow, and it's nearly already melted as I write this. It's just going to be a wet spring for a month when the course DO finally open... AND my league starts in 3 weeks!

We had a beautiful week of 40+ degree temperatures, and now 3 days of snow. mad.gif Oh well, it should be gone by Tuesday!

It's ridiculous.

It's 50 degrees down here. What happened to global warming? I hate sweaters. shok.gif rolleyes.gif huh.gif

Chicago here,

Well... I entered a spring scramble that is slated for this weekend... Yeah... I don't think its going to happen. The burbs got around 10inches last weekend. But, the forecast has it going up to a wapping warm 48˚.... Fricking winter!!!

Haha, I know where that is. I used to live in Mt. Prospect. I never went there though. I used to drive by it on the way to a friends apt. I worked at AutoMotoSports(AMS).

I live outside of Louisville now. It is going to be 68 here on Thursday. I feel you all on the snow. I played golf on a Tuesday and that Friday we got 12-14" of snow. I went and played again on that next Friday and there was still snow in the bunkers from the week before. Temps are starting to be steady now in the high 50s low 60s.

No joke. We were hammered in Milwaukee with the last storm, and I believe they're talking another 2 or 3" by the end of this week again. At this rate, we won't get onto the courses until May.. SERIOUSLY. There's only so much time I can spend in that golf dome, so I've been going crazy..
wisnobored
Does anyone know of a open driving range or course in Wisconsin???? I heard that a few driving ranges were opening.
ramylson
There's a heated outdoor range down by the airport that I saw was opened at the beginning of the week. Can't remember the name right now, but it was east of Hwy 94 off of Rawson Ave. Otherwise, you'll have to fight through the traffic at the Currie Golf Dome.

Is that the Rusty Open? If so, I think it got rescheduled.

I got so sick of shoveling snow that I got out my 5 Iron, went out side and sarted to uses it to shovel my front steps. Couple of chips (wood deck type) other than that, it worked great!!! Then, I got really clever. Shoveled away some snow, in the back yard, near the woods/tree. Build snow mounds, started a campfire and grill, pulled out the drive and proceeded to level the snow mounds i built(4h x 3w x 2L)

A few cold one's to keep the fluid level up!!
Then I got hooked-I'm do this ever other night-Help!!!

Ah, how I miss sweet home Chicago. I remember when the dome at White Pines first opened, gave us something to do until spring. used to live about 10 minutes from cog Hill, #1 & 3 used to be open year round, I remember playing to frozen greens.

got lucky about 9 years ago, got transfered to Dallas, play pretty much every day, except for heavy rains. Spring will get there soon, hang in there.

LOL. The snow has me so screwed up in the head that I'm having fond memories of playing Karsten with all those mounds and uneven lies. I think the first stages of frost bite and hypothermia are setting in...

Actually, Chicago is pretty awesome during the spring and summer. But, for some reason, spring hasn't sprung yet this year.

its coming

Ski hills are starting the end of season festivities, demo days are being announced, and I've been to the range a couple times

If you live in the Northeastern part of the country you really need 2 vices, one winter, one summer

that way you're covered no matter what nature throws at you friends.gif

I was in Chicago this past week for a business trip. Thought about bringing my clubs to try and sneak a round in. Decided with the forecast of 45* prior to my trip, it wasn't worth it. Get there, and Thursday it SNOWED......ALL DAY. The end of March, and it was snowing.

Drove past The Traditions at Chevy Chase.....the marquee said...."OPEN APRIL 5th" as snow fell in front of it.

I don't know how you guys do it out there, i ahve 5 rounds in already. They were on the cold side....but there was no snow anywhere in sight....

It's Gastrau's Golf (414) 571-7002. At 1300 East Rawson ave. He's been open all winter. All you'll need is a sweatshirt, once you get to hitting, you might not even need that it's that warm.
daheels
The National Golf Center in Big Bend is also open year round. They have heated stalls and you can see the full ball flight. Little tough to see long shots when there is snow on the ground but its better than dome imo.

If you believe in global warming, this is one of the symptoms, UNSTABLE, UNSEASONAL weather patterns. Warm one day, cold and snow the next, extreme weather...tornadoes (Atlanta), heavy rains, drought... Ice the size of Manhattan breaking off ice shelf in the Artic...

I'm in the Twin Cities and not 10 minutes after reading an email this morning about Oak Marsh (a St. Paul suburb course) opening this afternoon, I watched the weather forecast calling for 6 inches of snow! NICE!!

I finally made it to the range yesterday..... we almost hit 50 degrees!! The snow melted but we're flooding now. I was stupid and took my kids with me. I only got to hit 4 balls, but boy did that feel good. The kids had a great time and we hit the ice cream shop afterwards. By the time we finished that, it was back down in the 30's.

No more snow...yet. Last year we had snow in April. The Indians had to play home games in Milwaukee because we got pelted so bad.
