Tiger’s trophy case continues to overflow. Golf tournaments and majors are not the only thing Tiger Woods has a knack for winning wire to wire. Tiger Woods was just awarded another Mark H. McCormack award for the 10th year running. In fact, Tiger has been awarded this honor each year since the award’s inception, all the way back to 1998.

The award is named after IMG Sports Marketing icon, Mark H. McCormack. Mr. McCormack was responsible for launching professional golf into the world of advertising and marketing. Arnold Palmer had a very early and long relationship with Mr. McCormack and Arnie was an advertising legend during the 1960's television and print media era

This award is presented annually to the player who holds the No. 1 position on the Official World Golf Ranking for the greatest number of weeks during each calendar year. If Tiger keeps up his current pace, he may be the only guy to ever win this award. It seems that Mr. McCormack played an integral role in creating the World Golf Ranking system. It is only fitting that the award bears his name. One can only wonder if he ever foresaw one golfer having such an extreme and practically permanent grip on the world number one golf ranking.

According to PGA.com, “The concept for a world ranking for men's professional golf began with McCormack in 1986. During the 1986 Masters, he launched the Sony Ranking, which was sanctioned by the Championship Committee of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.”

In order to facilitate the creation and inception of a true classification for a worldwide golf ranking system, the five major international golf tours joined the representatives from golf’s four major championships. In 1997 all of the leaders of all the world's major golf organizations joined with one another to create the world golf ranking governing body.
