I think Golf Wrx should hold some sort of tournament. That way everyone here that talks a big game could show up and put in all on the line.
My vote goes to having a three day match play tournament at the Bandon Dunes resort.
What type of tournament would you like?
Where would you want it at?

I never said it would work.
I caddied at Bandon Dunes for several years and a high percentage of the players came from over seas.
I will revise: I think Golf Wrx should have a tournament in America. It would be mainly for Americans, but people from all over the world could come if they wanted. That way it could work.

This is an idea that should have been suggested by now (and I wouldn't be surprised if it has been). We should have sectionals!! We could have pix posted and scope all the awesome gear wrx'ers have in action.

Yeah, should be pretty easy to put together. Everyone here will be able to agree on a format, time, place. Maybe have flights based on your posted swingspeed, carry, and distance. Sorry, that's a lot of sarcasm (rough week and still -3 *C in Halifax)

I think it would be quite cool to see some of the faces from here. We all come here because we're addicts of some sort and golf is a common denominator..
I don't think match play would work. I don't know how many of these I've played with sandbaggers, just takes the fun out for me anyways at a 4-5 handicap. Bad enough I have to give an honest 15 cap 10 strokes, but a sandbagging 15 ??? Match play is great without the handicaps, then there's no bull...
Sectionals would be cool, something that wouldn't necessarily have to be completed with a year, heck even statewide would be cool. Minneapois is only 8 hours away anyways.........
Would take some work though ....

Ok how about this.
I am going to make sure that Golf Wrx themselves is ok with this.
There will be two divisions if there is enough support.
-Handicaps of 10 and under will play in the Hogan bracket.
-Handicaps of 10 plus would play in the Sneed bracket.
Both would be match play conducted over three days.
The first day would be qualifying for the weekend match play. During the first day people would be broken up into two man teams that would be sponsored by companies that support Golf Wrx like: Sizemore, Joe Kwok, Scratch etc. The first goal of day one would be to get qualifying scores, however, the scores would be tallied of the two man teams as a best ball and there would be winners there.
The second and third day would be straight up match play. I have connections at the Bandon Crossings golf course. I think I could arrange for an affordable package that would include rooms, golf, and prizes.
Let me know what you think.

You would probably have to build it like an organization. You get like 4 guys that are responsible for finding people to be State Representatives. Then when you get people to run their own state, they find people to run Regions within that state. Obviously, it would be nice to have a giant map of where all the WRXer's are, so you could know who to contact.
For example, I could not be in charge of a state, because I am too busy, but I could probably help out with 2 regions. Mid-Michigan and SouthEastern Michigan. I go to school in Mid-Michigan and I live in Southeastern Michigan. I think it would be fun to do a tournament, but I am not able to travel and I have no idea how many WRXer's there are in the Mid-Michigan area.

That's a good idea. It could be done by region, e.g., Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, etc. If you wanted to the individual winners in their brackets could move to the next level. Match play would be good. Maybe sometime in July, so us northerners who haven't swung a club in months could get their handicaps to where they should be.

I was thinking about splitting up into smaller segments to avoid airfare and make this as convenient as possible to those involved.
Split up states and countries into north/south regions or like the GHIN organizations in your region. California has the ncga and scga so people would play sites according to their location.

I am trying to start a NCGA WRX/MyGolfBuddy Chapter. I think I need 16 members to sign up for an online club. If we can get local chapters up, then we maybe able to hook into tournaments like the Callaway Tour. It would make things much easier and planning would be painless.

I think what you'd have to do is have a stroke play qualifier (one round) in every state or region and then have the finals strokeplay tournament at a set location for the winners of each state/region. Also a possiblility to make the trip more worthwhile sponsers could put up prizes for the top finishers at the finals (something really good like a set of irons/giftcard/etc).
We could have updates from each day of the tournament and help promote the sponsers that way.

GX. count me in as one of the 16 dependant on the cost. I bet hairpie and icemkr would be in as well! I think this would be a good starting point to schedule regional outings, as the group would give you leverage at courses for tournament teetimes and rates.
As to everyone agreeing on format, flights etc. for a nationwide tournament, that ougta be a fun conversation!! LOL.

I'm in upstate NY; Capital Region. We have some solid tracts up here, including Saratoga National (Celebrity Tour), Albany's Capital Hills (Futures finale course), Saratoga Spa course, The Sagamore, Orchard Creek (former State Qualifier), and many others. Most of these courses are under 50 bucks and if you are here during the end of July through August it is Track Season (think horses). Take a look online.

I am willing to organize it. I think we should start semi small the first go around. Regional qualifiers would require far to much organization and way to many people to make sure that it would happen for sure. I will make some calls next week and see what some dates in July ish time look like.

If something gets organized then i'm in.
I understand it's a year later, and there are MANY more
members here, but we kind of tried a Midwest outing last
year. NO ONE really commited, and it had to be cancelled.
Also, FWIW, Frank (Golfchicago), busted his butt getting it
set up. All for NAUGHT.
Again, i'm all for it. If it goes through.

I'm organizing a Mid-Atlantic Chapter outing, which will be held next month (April 19th). I love the idea of this, but based on what I've experienced with organizing the local outing, it would certainly have to be broken down into local chapters. A local chapter would have to have enough surrounding members to support it, obviously not every area would be able to support a chapter, but I'm sure there would be enough.
All the local chapters could run their "mini-league", which those stats could be passed up and compared against the other local chapters, etc.
I would certainly be up for something like this!!
