Funny, I PMed Homz ;ast night about a new indoor golf course that opened in the complex I where I work in Plymouth, MA.

The guy that opened it was the head pro over at Crosswinds and is a great guy, only $36 an hour for how ever many people you have and just got a liquor license drinks.gif

But to answer your question, simulator golf isn't as good as the real thing, but it really is great, and accurate for distance and so forth.

You can really learn alot about your swing sinceit gives you the same info on every shot a launch monitor would give you.

As for putting, the way the simulator this guys uses, there are 3 dots on the floor, one for each distance, and the few feet in front of the screen count as green space, but the putting is great, it's really similiar to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006, since there is a grid on the green to help you read it

I'm actually going to play another round tomorrow night after work, definately alot of fun if you're unable to play outside.

So go give it a shot idhitit.gif

(And if anyone is in or near Plymouth, MA and wants to know where this place is, just PM me and I'll fill you in)

i tried it its pretty fun the putting works by distances and what it thinks you wud make from that distance

Thanks guys I think I'm heading outthere this afternoon to try it. I am a little under the weather so I'm not convinced I'll make it.

Ok, I made it.

It was pretty awesome. Shot flight on screen seemed to be very reflective of what I was feeling or what my partners appeared to deliver. If it looked like they pushed it, it seemd to be reflected on the screen pretty well.

Draws and fades seemed to show up. They seemed to be a little less pronounced then what I experience out in the real world wink.gif

We had a bit of an issue with the short game. Chips and pitches didn't seem to be accurately reflected but that was the only problem and that may be an adjustment needed on our part.

We got 11 holes done in a liitle over two hours but there is alot of room for improvement there because we were learning the machine.

I shot +8 on the 11 which is pretty good for me.

That's the only issue I noticed also, really hurt my short games since I'm the type that likes to toss the ball high and let it settle close, really had to adjust for that, and if you don't reach the screen with a pitch or chip it doesn't always register fool.gif

Still fun none the less cool.gif

I actually played a round today. Up in Maine, we are pretty much forced inside for the winter of course unless you ski, or board. But, I headed up to Bath CC, and they have a whole facility down in their basement, it's pretty neat, three screens, and I they have I think 12 courses that you can choose from. I played Doral today, and shot a -1 71 from the Pro Tees. I think it's fairly accurate, because my iron distances were almost spot on, it's almost like a mini launch monitor but it simulates your ball flight, lots of fun. As for the short game, I do agree, it can get kind of tricky when you get into the chips, sand shots, and those full lob wedges that shoot straight up and hit the ceiling. Ours might be a set up a little bit different. When you are standing behind the simulator, obviously there is the big screen, and then, oh, about a 10 feet, by 15 foot area that is the putting green, and then a little 3x2 foot mat in the middle that has 3 - 1 foot strips of different material mats, representing sand, rough, and fairway. When you get on the green, spot lights will shine on the putting green, and there are letters A-Z marked in carpet that was laid down, it will give you a letter to putt from obviously according to how 'far' you are away from the hole. The putting surface rolls at a nice 11 on the stimp, so it's not like some of the carpets that are like putting on concrete.

I had a great time, and it's only $25 an hour no matter how many guys you bring up there. I find that it takes about an hour for every person to play 18 holes, so it works out good, you can bring four guys up there, have the screen for four hours, and still only pay 25 bucks.

I went over there a couple of weeks ago.. (in Plymouth) I know Russ from Xwinds... It is different.. I bought a 10 bucket card..any idea on how busy they Get.. I only did 1/2 hour once and was just getting the hang of it. Played for real last Friday at Ridder and the riday before that at Ridder, so the indoor golf has kind of fallen of the radar.. I might try to get over there tommorow..

I'm actually going there tomorrow, was a bit backed up a few weeks ago on saturday afternoon.

Russ really is a great guy though, puts up with all my questions!

I was thinking about going to a real course, but Girlfriend has an eye appointment at 3pm, and I know she wants to go play also wink.gif

So if you're there Olddog look for a guy there with his girlfriend, should be there around 4pm or so, my name is Greg wink.gif

Up here in Alaska I play allot of indoor golf. I'm actually in a sramble league every Wednesday. The screens read the ball using two sensors. Fades, hooks, slices, etc, are read by the direction the ball bounces back off the screen. The best way to make putts on the screen is to use this formula:

one inch on the backswing=two feet on the screen

so a ten foot putt would require a five inch backswing with a medium tempo (for a level putt)

I've been playing indoor for a while so feel free to ask me any questions.

that sounds like a really really nice one. they should all be like that. the ones here in st. augustine at the world golf village aren't that nice. they're rather basic...and ball speed isn't accurate. my swing speed is around 115 and when i absolutely murder the ball..it says it went 210 yards dead straight? some are just a little off, i guess
