Watching NBC's Sunday coverage of the PODS Championship yesterday for 3 hours, and trying to catch a glimpse of one of my favorite players, Geoff Ogilvy, I noticed that they maybe showed one shot a hole of him. Even when he got within two of the lead, they wouldn't show him. They kept showing Mayfair and Imada, who were also at 2 under, but very little of Ogilvy. I figured it wouldn't be that difficult being paired with Cink. Any ideas why?

more than that....i remember at one point in the coverage they showed cink hole out a putt, and int eh background as cink walked off the green ogilvy was clearly visible lining up his putt, and they went to a commercial. very weird. I would think they would want to key on this guy....sharp player, well spoken, and a major winner an NBC MAJOR winner.

I think it was a combination of several things. When he got close to the lead, there were several others there too and it was more due to folks backing up to him. He really never had it going yesterday either, Imada and a few others were having pretty good rounds and looked like they had a better shot of continuing than Ogilvy getting back on track. I have no real clue, just a few thoughts.

I love watching Ogilvy also, heard the story a year or so back about how his temper kept him from being a top player for years. Then he got it back in line and has been successful. I saw him almost throw a club at the PGA last year in Tulsa after a poor approach into 13, I got a quick glimpse of what that temper was like. Hope he gets it going this year.

Good point. I also forgot to add that it was obviously deliberate because they had little to show and filled an extraordinary amount of time with shots of the tournament logo and that freakin' Snoopy blimp like we've never seen it before.

I find they do this all the time. They never show the full spectrum of players and do a poor job of covering the whole field. It just usually happens that they a just showing Tiger so no one complains!

I agree, too much "filler." I figured out this weekend what I liked so much about the European Tour coverage. It is always quiet, you can always hear the birds, crickets, whatever is in the background. There is a little commentary too, but all you SEE is GOLF!

Let's not forget the utterly useless and archaic "Lincoln Financial Sports Report" shoehorned numerous times into every broadcast. Makes me want to punch NBC in the face. To make matters worse, when it's over you get that slow, lingering logo on the screen for a good five-count..."This has been...the Lincoln Financial Sports Report".

NBC and Lincoln Financial, you can both shove it. I hate you both.

That was one thing I liked about the matchplay coverage. They had the player's mikes up so loud you couldn't hear the commentary.

All in all, golf coverage on TV just plain sucks. No one does it well.

It's all Johnny Miller's fault.

They never show Appleby any more after his F-bomb at Houston last year on 18. He's been in the top ten 3 or 4 times this year and I think I've seen him take a shot or putt about 5 times this whole year, yet they keep showing Phil at Pebble when he's completely out of the tournament. The Golf execs at NBC and CBS decide who gets to be popular on tour.

At least CBS does a good job on their broadcasts.

I also remember thinking this at last year's US Open, when he was somewhat in contention in the same group as Tiger, even tied with Tiger at one point if I remember correctly, i saw him maybe once.

Anytime you get less than an hour of coverage in a 3 hour telecast something has seriously went to hell in a hand basket too much advertising I'm gonna have to get a tivo and regain alot of my life back.
