I'm looking for effective putting drills, that will dramatically improve my putting

My short putting game is amazingly bad, i chip it pretty close and miss the putt

The tee drill...set up two tees just wide enough for your putter to swing through and practice hitting putts that way. You veer off path and you'll hit the tees.

Thanks sounds good

Every time you go to practice do the following...

1. Make 30 putts from one foot away.
2. Make 30 putts from one and a half foot away.
3. Make 30 putts from two feet away.
4. Repeat steps 1 thru 3.

If you are unable to make 30 putts from one foot away, then move to a half a foot and progress to one and a half foot away.

I tape two band aids around the face of my putter. I space them so as to leave a gap where the putter should impact the ball. When hit properly on the sweet spot, the ball rolls normally. When hit towards the toe or the heel, it goes noticeably offline.

Cheap, easy, and helps me get my putter stroke correct.

I tape two small coins to the face (uk 5p) either side of the sweetspot this works fine for me.

just incase anyone is wondering why someone called 3puttmike is giving advice on putting tips its my distance control that gives me my username not my stroke.

Depending on your putter if it has a flange on the back. Set a coin on the flange and stroke putts trying to keep the coin on the putter. It will take the hit out of the stroke.

I've read about this. Is this something that is for everyone? Is this for one type of putting stroke, or does this apply to all types of putting strokes no matter what?

I tried this, but I noticed it just makes me deloft my putter more.

put 4 tees around the hole(3 ft away) at 3 6 9 and 12 oclock and go around 4 times and if you miss start over dont leave until you finish and make yourself go around more times every practice session.... also do that same drill but put the tees and 3 4 and 5 feet away... got those off the practice like a pro dvd.... pull backs is super hard and could ruin your confidence if you cant make 3-5 footers but everytime you putt a ball and miss pull it back a putter length, go 9 holes on the practice green and try to get 2 or under on all

At my home course, the putting green has just 6 holes cut. Whenever I'm practicing, one thing that I do is try to circle the green and make it through in 12 strokes (even par). Then the next time around, I try to finish the 6 holes in 11 strokes. Then 10, and so on. I've never gotten to 6 yet, but I'll be damned if I don't keep trying! It's pretty good for practicing those putts that have something riding on them.

Another drill thats good for working on your speed control is one where you really need the green to yourself. What you do is set up one tee about 30 feet away, and another in line with it about 15 feet past it. Putt the first ball and try and get it just past the first tee. Then try to get the 2nd ball in between the first ball and the second tee. Then try to putt the 3rd ball between the 2nd ball and the 2nd tee, and so on. Try to fit as many balls in between the tees as possible. My record is 16.

Line up carefully, take a practice swing, then putt with your eyes closed. This will open your eyes (and provide great feel) for getting the ball to the hole. It also helps keep you looking down until the ball is well on the way to the hole--imperative. Also important, whatever drill you use: practice it a lot.

I also love the Band-Aids tip on each side of the sweet spot. That's great for feel and doesn't add much important weight to the putter. Nice one, Onebulldogs! Thanks!

"Abbreviating the backswing teaches authoritative striking faster than anything I know of. I used to do it for hours at home on the carpet. I'd take a book and place it only an inch or two behind the putter, then try to hit the ball crisply to my mark without having touched the book on the backswing. If you do this for a quarter of an hour a day, concentrating especially on keeping the left wrist firm, you will soon discover what the professional mean when they talk of "rap" putting." – John Jacobs

It is for everyone if you are delofting the putter head it sounds like you may be doing it to keep the coin on the flange. Check it out great drill if you have any hit at all in the stroke.
