Picked one up for my trip to Bandon just in case it rains. Anybody have any experience good or bad with this rain suit?

Is this the one that folds up into that little bag? If so, I bought one at the Westchester tournament a couple of years ago. It was ok if it was a quick shower or a light drizzle....but if it's a true rain, I ended up wet. Recently purchased the new Rainflex (I think that's what it's called), and it's very good for being non Gore-tex. Hopefully it won't rain on you (much) in Bandon.

Ditto. Good for the occasional or unexpected rain, but doesn't breath as well as Gore-Tex (or other laminate) and doesn't "move" quite as well as brands like ZR.

A Gore-Tex would surely be nice but since I live in Utah where rain is only in your imagination in the summer, dropping that kind of $$ is probably a waste. I figure for $80, this should suffice in Bandon during the historically driest month of the year or there.

Yes, it is the one that folds up into a small pouch.

I don't want to bag on the Provisional Rainsuit b/c they definitely have a place in the golf world, but I have to completely disagree with your position. The big upside with the suit is the cost and the lightweight. Because it is so light and compact, I drop mine in my bag at the beginning of each season and forget about it. If an unexpected rain starts up in CT, it is perfect for getting me to the house. BUT - I can play my home courses anytime I want. If the rains get really heavy, I have no problem leaving the course.

I don't know how much it is going to cost him to fly to Oregon, rent a car, get a room, and pay hundreds of dollars for greens fee and/or a caddie; however, I guarantee it is enough to make sure he doesn't have to walk off (or have a miserable time) b/c his rainsuit isn't up to the task.

When I went to Ireland a few years ago, I didn't know any better and took a horrible Greg Norman rainsuit. I ended a round at Tralee soaked to the bone. It literally rained from the 4th hole until we finished. Although I loved the course (the back nine is fantastic), I did not appreciate being miserable for most of the back nine. The guys with good, goretex rainsuits were dry and good to go.

Given the weather in Bandon and the fact he will be walking, getting a good rainsuit will be worth every penny, even if it is just for peace of mind.

With a good rainsuit, walking 18 in the rain is not a problem (don't forget the bucket hat). Just my opinion.

BTW - One can put together a decent suit at a reasonable price. FJ and SunMountain rainjackets are often available on closeout at a good price. For pants, I got a pair of GoreTex rainpants at my local outdoor store (Cabelas) for under $100.
