Was that gum he was chewing on or Viagra? They gave him the easiest questions and Clint looked like he had no idea where he was. He still directs movies?
Pdougherty
Whatever he had in his mouth, it sure didn't look professional.

They guy is a legend, give him a break.
We'll all be there one day, so try and be a little more compassionate.

Wasn't nearly as bad as the grammys last night, there were some real oldies on stage there.

Clydefrog
that gum chewing noise was really annoying
wwhitehead
He's a legend, for sure.

That being said, he didn't seem 100% aware of his surroundings.

I can't argue with that.
Samsquanch
Are you kidding?

I thought he was swell. He's Clint Eastwood for crying out loud, he's supposed to do that.

Plus, he never really can just focus on one thing, he has to make sure there's no bad guys gonna come and shoot him up.

Was that gum he was chewing on or Viagra? Horrible. They gave him the easiest questions and Clint looked like he had no idea where he was. He still directs movies? I really don't want to get old.

Seemed fine to me. He's a quiet guy to begin with. The gum chewing was annoying, but if you're some punk kid intern, are YOU going to tell Clint Eastwood to spit out his gum!?!?!

I don't think most people realize how hard it is to be entertaining and keep the groove going for announcers.
cdesana
I thought he was out of sorts as well, and the broadcast team struggled to get him involved.
Pepperturbo
As far as I am concerned, Client Eastwood’s presents in the booth was ceremonial, not only for the organization that owns Pebble Beach, the media and a great many of his admirers and viewers watching; but maybe for him, since he’s aging fast.

If anyone took the time to notice, he did not really desire to be there; but was. As for his chewing what ever, who gives a darn? His present surely was not for viewers that can’t appreciate it was C.E. that put together the general partnership to buy Pebble Beach out of trouble, presently maintains those costly facilities, and willing to host a historic tournament so the charitable organizations that rely on the funds could still benefit from the tournament; and we could watch it. It is almost embarrassing to read whining posts from people that do nothing for golf; yet feel their attitude warrants expressing. Just one man's opinion.

Mr Eastwood is 77 years old he has spent is life entertaining people working in politics and doing charity work. I honestly hope if you do get old people show you more respect than you showed him with this thread.

He's a legend and I feel that he's earned our respect (well at least my respect). I think that he definitely deserves a pass for something so insignificant. Who knows, it could have had some purpose eg, nicotine gum, or something related to the smell from dentures, etc. There could be a legitimate reason, regardless he gets a pass in my book.

It would have been cool to see him with a cheroot though! pimp.gif
8oyley
anyone have a clip i missed it??
dirt
I was waiting for him to spit into a pittune(sp) or on a mut's head. Clint is the man, even though he seemed a bit stoned. Must have been the ambience.
MoGolf
Clint was probably chewing gum to mask the smell of the toddies he'd just comsumed in The Tap Room at Pebble. The day we played there, we closed it down that night. Undoubtedly the coolest place to get a buzz on of any place I've ever been.
For what he's done for golf, and his community, give the guy a break. Unfortunately, we'll all be his age someday(if we're lucky), and the kids will be saying the same thing about us.

No one will disagree with your comment. Thank you.

I for one am always thrilled to see him whether it be in a movie or a booth a true legend and talent and was not the least bit annoyed by his chewing IMHO he can do whatever he wants I'm just glad to see him still kicking around.
Baller
I did not take it as he was out of sorts, I take it as he much rather had been doing something else. The gum reinforced that.
minitour
I've never been a real big Eastwood fan. I have a hard time understanding why some of you think he's "a legend". He's a mediocre actor at best. As for what kind of "person" he is, I can't say...I don't know him.

He has 4 Oscars. "Go ahead, make my day" is probably one of the most cliched and quoted lines of all time.

I think "legend" applies here.

Was that gum he was chewing on or Viagra? They gave him the easiest questions and Clint looked like he had no idea where he was. He still directs movies?

It was my impression that it was a result of his efforts that the tournament happened. It raised over 7 million dollars for charity, why would you chastise him for doing a good public deed? Very low dtrain.

He was still better than Danny Gans.

I didn't watch any of the AT&T, but I distinctly remember a fly buzzing across the camera at the Sony Open in front of Nick Faldo and Tilghman. That fly did a more convincing impression of a bald eagle than Gans does of anyone in his repertoire... wink.gif

Love Mr. Eastwood. Let him chat all he wants, gum and all.

But just because your 77, don't wear your belt up to your chest!

Go ahead, make my pudding!

That guy could be hunched over in a wheelchair, drooling on his food stained pyjamas in some old folks home in 10 years time and he would still be cool. This is Dirty Harry we're talking about here. C'mon, the guy practically perfected the word "cool".

Bobcat43
Wow! I can't believe that some actually question his status as a legend. He is a true pillar of Hollywood. You don't have to like him or even like his work. But come on guy! Are you kidding me? Pull your head from where ever it's been shoved!

As for his manners in the booth...who cares. I'll take Clint chewing gum over Gary McCord's rediculous attempts at humor. And besides.. I'd take 77 years old with my own teeth right now! biggrin.gif

El Crab
I noticed the gum, and did think it was odd. And he didn't seem that comfortable. It was all a bit awkward.

But he's Clint Eastwood. William H. Munny. Dirty Harry. The Man with No Name. Josey Wales. If he wants to chew gum on National TV, he can.

I thought he seemed more annoyed by the sappiness of Nantz than anything else. Jim has gotten a little too mushy; it's golf, not Hallmark Hall of Fame.

I agree, he's really dramatic. polling.gif
