Kelly Tilghman just referred to Gregory Norman (Gregs Son) as a chip off the old black. After the whole lynch debacle I couldn't help but laugh at her slip of the tongue! Poor girl black eye.gif
bmaas03
I didn't hear that one, but I did hear her say that Tiger would have a good shot at winning the next US Open at Pebble Beach the next time it is played there.
Faldo even brought up the fact that Tiger won Torre Pines this year and she still wasn't catching on.
silliwilli
Yeah I noticed that as well smile.gif She really is hopeless, wish they would ditch her for Feherty or someone!

Sorry, I don't get what she should have caught onto. I'm not with it today.

me neither.
PurePursuit
She really slipped up and said "chip off the old black"??? Wow she must be pretty nervous about messing up again and losing her job. Poor lady.
poppyhillsguy
I didn't hear it since I always have Kelly on my internal "Mute" button.
Hifade
Just saw it (heard it) on my TIVO replay. I was having a nice little glass of milk with a few cookies after dinner and took a sip of milk when all of the sudden I heard "chip off the old black, block." I actually choked up the milk until it ran outta my nose. I laughed so hard, I 'bout fell out of my chair. The first thing I could think of was OMG here comes the Rev Sharpton.

Needless to say....I LMFAO.
BEND OF THE RIVER GC
Stick a fork in her. Bring in some of the Euro guys....or just Faldo and Zinger. Oh yeah, they'll need a waterboy, where is Johnny Miller?

I think the joke is that Tiger won at Torrey Pines this year, and the open is being played there this year, so why would he look towards the Open being at Pebble. Or something.

I wouldn't trust Miller to wash my clubs. Anyone who thinks the two strap system is gimmicky and bad for your back after all these years is clueless. Not that I've ever seen him carrying clubs.

All I know is, as I turned coverage on around 4:30pm Nick was talking about something... only to be talked right over by Kelly informing people we were watching J.J. Henry putting for par. Well whoopdee freakin' doo!! Thanks for the news flash there Kell. A graphic could have told me that. Really...it's Thursday...who cares? I don't know if any of you caught that, but it just sounded brutal. With that...I turned it off, and had a nap. I couldn't even tell what Nick was talking about, but Kelly just had to be heard. WOW!! Maybe it was just bad timing on my part for turning it on when I did...but really. Maybe I'll watch the "primetime" re-air, seeing as how I'm all rested up from my nap...just to see what Nick was trying to convey to the viewers, or whatever he was talking about.
Then again...maybe not!

Edit: I had to watch it again...it was closer to the 5:00pm hour...anyways...it was just Peter Kostis & Nick talking about staying at the lodge at Pebble. Nothing earth shattering, but she still shouldn't have talked over him.

acantrell
I wonder what she'd be doing if she wasn't good looking? My guess is she wouldn't get as many chances to open her mouth on air. Granted, it's not too uncommon for an anchor to stumble on their words, and I'm not saying I could do a better job or anything, but her commentating doesn't do much for me IMO. However, in her defense she probably doesn't get too many opportunities to sharpen her commentating skills due to the exorbitant amount of commercial breaks on TGC
Milo
I admit my ignorance because I still have no idea how she both got the job and managed to keep it. Anyone know?

Pretty much.
She didn't catch on that Tiger won at Torre Pines, which is where the US Open is being played this year, while they were having a conversation about players who had won at the same course twice in one year...one of the events being the US Open.
stratkidp38
Her babble seems to be even worse on tonight's broadcast. Just talking about anything and everything. They just showed a shot looking down from the blimp of some seals on the rocks to which Kelli replies,"is that one on the right waving? The one on the far right. He must've seen Snoopy looking down on him." WTF?
Smooth spin scott
I can't stand the fact that after every commercial break they do that Golf Channel Update, leaderboard thing from every tournament going on.... Once great , twice pass me a beer, 3 times shoot me. 5 minutes of golf, 10 minutes of comercials, 5 minutes of "Updates". Terrible, I want to throw my channel changer through my tv right now.
DefConOne
The only pro I saw was Natalie Gulbis carrying some guy's bag. If I want to see amateurs hit bad shots I can just go to my golf course. I would have liked to see the pros more. I find no appeal in watching "celebrities" hit golf balls. I turned it off.
Redhaze737
Totally agree. If I hear Danny Ganns or whatever his name is do his crap one more time I'm gonna puke. Try to find some golf. And stuff a sock in Kelly's mouth. She just talks to hear her head rattle.

Just saw/heard that! What the hell? biggrin.gif

I'm dying to know what was going through her head that made her say that. Was a producer telling her to go "back" to another hole? Is Clint Black in the field? What she thinking don't say 'black', don't say 'black', don't say 'black' - d'oh!

which tiger won when it was held at Pebble Beach where he also won the the Bob Hope Pro-Am held there in the same year. So she was stuck on that. The Dircertor flashed on the screen all the people that won the US Open and a regular tour event played at the same venue. Faldo stated Tiger won at Torrey this year already, US Open is at Torrey Pine so he could do it again

I like Kelly Tighlman and I think she does a good job .She is a lifelong golfer and a good one (she can easily beat most of us) and is knowledgable about the players and the golf swing .She is articulate and has a pleasant on air voice .If I ever have to go to trial for anything ,I certainly hope you are not my jury .
Milo
She did ask Kostis a good question.
How many shots in an average round will a PGA tour pro hit perfectly? Kostis did not have to think long but came right out with the figure of about 8. Interestingly he mentioned that he believed that those 8 were often not made in key situations.
I find her fatuous and silly but kudos for that enquiry. If she could come up with more sensible questions she might earn her pay.
Hifade
Kamtile.......c'mon brutha. This is an absolute silly thing to say. Saying she can easily do something is speculative and opinionated, at best. Trust me, she can NOT easily beat most of us. If you meant to put it in the context that states that you respect her because she can easily beat you, then okay. Just a thought.

golfer98
because she likes the ladies man_in_love.gif and won't hit on the male golfers !
ChrisM84
She is alright at times, but when she goes off on those overly dramatic one liners I just CRINGE. Its like she is trying to say something so touching and memorable with almost every sentence out of her mouth.

First ,please note I said MOST .OK ,I did make some assumptions .1) I assume that the majority of golfers on this site are not low single digit handicappers .2) Refer to #1

Watching Chris Berman was brutal......I was embarrassed for him.

Good God, did anyone see Lerner doing his lame impersonations trying to keep up with the comedian (THAT DOES IT FOR A LIVING)....it was really pathetic...didn't even sound remotely close to who he said he was impersonating.

God save us from TGC. Before some smart a** says it.....I changed the channel.

My favorite KT moment was during hawaii- they had just rolled out the trackman coverage, and nick faldo was talking aobut someones numbers. Out of the blue, kelly goes "Boy, I'd like to see bubbas numbers. His spin must be massive!" *cue awkward pause*. Then Nick goes "Actually, he hits it far because the spin is low". Kelly goes "well yeah, massively low". And there is some more silence, and then they cut to commercial.

I was rolling on the ground. No better comedy anywhere.

She needs a holiday.
keephooking
She needs a LOOOOOONNNGGGG holiday!!! Get Faldo and Feherty up in the booth, I bet that would make for some interesting banter!
mankit
I watched thursday the first time ever The Golfchannel coverage with NF and KT and i thought it was ok. Not too bad as some other US sports coverage.
AcesAZ
I really think KT did a great job hosting but she just doesn't have the skills to do live coverage. Man I wish her the best but just get her out of there. She is terrible to say the least.
freelanceterry
Everything else aside...I can't get over her voice.
Is it just me that thinks it's really....droning? and forced? Like a robot a little.
Like a condescending robot.

BallSpinner
TGC should just hire James Earl Jones to do all booth commentary and call it good.

Actually, I don't mind Tilghman. Faldo gets on my nerves at times though.
Remember, we could still have Lanny...

Who is this Tellingham person that you hate so much? Never heard of her.

I don't know what to make of this.

Not that I think she is great by any means, but it has to be difficult to commentate with a former #1 player and most likely the best player of his generation. I think she is more intimidated by Faldo then she is a poor announcer.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with intimidation. Some people are just born to be public speakers, announcers, on-air personalities, and some people aren't.

And being awesome at the sport doesn't make you a great announcer either.

Bill Belechick is arguably the greatest football coach of all time, certainly a brilliant football "mind." How do you think he'd be in a booth? I'd think TERRIBLE.
