I'm looking at a couple of 2008 Sun Mountain bags and wanted everyone's opinion!

The two models are: the 3.5 Superlight or the new Swift. The 3.5 is obviously...3.5 lbs while the Swift is 2.7 lbs or something like that. Is it worth it to sacrifice some features (top dividers, etc.) for some lighter weight? The Swift has a two way divider, while the superlight has a 6 way divider. This will be my walking bag, as I also have a full feature bag already. Mainly using it for 10 clubs or so for 9 holes, driving range.

Also, any preferences on the styles? Lastly, has anyone ever embroidered or got a sew on patch, iron on patch for their bag - know of where I might find this?

Honestly I'd stick with the Superlight over the swift.
0.8 lbs is nothing after you put all your cubs in it.
AND the extra dividers will be so much nicer to get your clubs in/out.
Plus you'll more than likely find the build quality of the superlight a bit better than the swift....

Add the extra room in the bag for gear/etc...it's a no brainer for me.

You might also want to check out the Mizuno Aerolite bag (3.5 lbs), I use one and it's awesome, or the Ogio Vaporlite (I think) just slightly heavier, to give you a couple other options.

The swift is actually a very sweet bag. I ordered these for my shop last fall and you actually can fit 14 clubs in the bag it just wont be as organized as the 3.5. You really cannot go wrong with either bag you just need to get the one that will accomodate all your needs.

On a side note when did they start making bags in left handed?

I prefer the look of the superlight. Sun Mountain makes nice bags though, so you can't really go wrong with either one.

As you can see from my avatar, my bag is Titleist version of the superlight 3.5. I would highly recommend the Sunmountain bag. (and Titleist bag too) I previously used Ogio, Nike and Burton...etc but nothing beats my current bag in terms of wieght and functionality.

Find out the diameter of both bags -- the 3.5 SL has a 9.5 inch diameter making it easier to get clubs in and out of the bag. If the Swift has the same diameter, then the 3.5 will be easier in term of organization.

I've found the 3.5 to have plenty of room for winter gear or a rain suit -- you need to check on the Swift's pockets. If the Swift has less pockets than the 3.5, I might check on the Mini if you don't have big headcovers.

I've found the 3.5 to accommodate everything with room - nice bag - better now with the wider straps. If you can wait until Spring, they'll have a velcro belted version of the 3.5, which will make it feel lighter on your back -- so I'd wait. Or at least email SM about it for its future availability if you're interested.

Get the 3.5, the savings in weight is nothing, being able to divide your clubs up while walking, even if it's just for 9 holes is nice, anything less is too minimalist if you ask me.

the 3.5 is not how much is weighs, it actually weighs 4.2 lbs. I don't know why they call it the 3.5, but I emailed Sun Mountain about it and they told me it weighed 3.5 pounds with the strap off and rainhood out of the bag. Wouldn't work too good without a strap.

I'm falling in love with Sun Mountain gear. Never really looked too close, once I came to GolfWRX and found out that the Titleist bags I've been using all these years were actually re-badged Sun Mountains, I'm a customer for life.

I still might stick with the Titleist bags though, I'm a label wh0re and I love that classic logo.

I have the 3.5 from a few years back. It is a nice bag, but I am seriously considering either the mini or swift, want to see them first though.

I just got the superlight this year and couldn't be happier with it. Sun Mountain is making some very good product at the moment (ie Rainflex, etc). It is very easy to carry and feels even lighter than stated when empty .

I like the color scheme of this one the best.:

the swift is too small IMO... the 3.5 is one of the best bags ever made and i dont think you can go too far wrong with one of those...

Call me crazy, but I Love Love Love the Sun Mountain Mini. And if the Swift was available last year, I prolly would have got that instead.

First - Never underestimate the power of the weight. I walk 99% of the time and the Mini sits nicely on my back, the clubs are held steady (as if in a quiver) and beacause of the lack of pockets, I do not stuff it full. That was the problem with the full size bags, you tend to put stuff in the pockets. In my mini are 5 balls, tees, divot tool, lip gloss, pack of gum, and my V2 Rangefinder (in the handy velour pocket, perfect). That's it! My golf partner has the 3.5 and he always has an extra windshirt, extra gloves, blah blah blah. I would say the difference between our bags is at least 3-5 lbs.

If you are a pure walker, and want to cut the weight to the absoulte minimum, go with the Swift.

that is the H2NO that comes out in May and its dead sexy in that pic.....that may give the white Wilson Staff bag a run for its money for my next bag

it's not 3.5 lbs....its just over 4 lbs, says the website

i was checking out the H2NO on the site a couple days ago...definitely looking into one this season.

Someone above asked when Sun Mountain started carrying bags for lefties.

I have had my Sun Mountain left handed carry bag for 3 or 4 years now, and it is a marvelous thing. If I remember right it is a 3.5 as well, and I won't buy anything else in the future. My previous bag was a Ping Hoofer, and it was impossible for me to get used to. So, LH SM bags have been around for that long, but I would assume it is longer. There are several golf shops on the internet that sell them, I got mine at a places called "lefties*********.com", I'm not sure I can use the full name here, so just "google it".

Maybe it's just me, but as a lefty, having a bag made for guys like me is a gift I greatly appreciate having. It also made me a Sun Mountain customer for life.

And my recommendation, stay w/ the 3.5.

Sun mountain 3.5 is a great bag, really light and lots of pockets, only problem i found was the sock part of the headcovers has a bit of trouble going into the divider.

Other than that its a great bag and all you can ask for

Because of this thread I ordered and just received a new 2008 sun mountain mini. I will use my 5 year old SL 3.5 with my Speed Cart and use this when I carry, or play after work when I have to hide my clubs in my office.

One thing I don't understand is why SM does not put section dividers in this bag. I spent the morning sewing some together and making my own so now it has four separate compartments. I play with 12 clubs and got them all in without too much problem, but the dividers make a huge difference getting them in and out.

Can't wait to take this bag out if it ever quits snowing.

NICE! That is a great example of keeping yourself occupied until the weather turns. I got the Mini last year, and was blown away with how light it is. Fortunately I've been able to make it work without the upgraded dividers, but do have a hard time with 14 clubs so just keep it for short courses or trips to the range. Leaning towards the Superlight 3.5 though so I can be ready for more.

Just got the Swift, it just looked so good in person. It is awesome! Extremely well made, light and a great little 9 hole bag or for the range!

IMHO...Sun Mountain makes the best stand bags bar none. I've owned 3...and loved them all.

One more shout out for the swift. I got the black and white one pictured in this thread. It does look fantastic in person. Got some sweet black and white striped pom-pom covers to go with it. Has all the basic pockets and hooks you need... valuables, water bottle, balls and tees, windbreaker, towel hook.

Played 18 with it last week. Found it to be very comfortable. Its a little tight with 14 clubs, but I think the weight savings is worth it.

I'm sure the 3.5 is nice as well... but I decided to committ to walking as much as possible this summer and felt the swift was the way to go.
