Here are some pictures from Sunridge Canyon. It was a cool day (58) with a steady breeze, but the course and mountains looked great.

Hello Tom and all!

Got in from Scottsdale last night late after three very nice days in the sun. Very cool mornings (low 40's) but almost sleeveless afternoons.

Legend Trail was a great fun casual layout in a-1 shape. A great bargain for those looking for a nice round. Troon Monument. WOW! Golf on the moon is a good description. Superb upkeep and a lot of fun.

And Sunridge. I'll spare the excuses. I found it to be the toughest of these courses.
This 8 hdcp may have barely broken 90 from the tips. I'd like to think it's one of those course that you can shave five strokes the second time around by better course management. It most definitely presents a whole lot of risk reward dilemmas. If you want to bomb a driver go elsewhere.

So much for a casual stroll into the clubhouse 18th hole, while impressing the chicks sunning on the veranda. Three of our foursome chipped within 36 inches of the pin only to come back off to the sum of 35 feet.
Maybe they boost the bar business with guy's running off the green for comfort.

Thanks for the great recommendations Tom.

FYI- Heard several folks raving about Eagle MTN.

Start planning your three day trip for next year (Eagle Mountain, We-Ko-Pa Cholla, and Troon North Pinnacle).

Count me in ! And I even throw in a round of drinks at the Fox Sports Grill
(Bell Rd and Scottsdale Rd) on me. Ended up being a good hang out to watch Louisville down Marquette Thursday night.

Cheers,
Brad

IMHO a great pity it does not play as nice as it looks and it does look very nice. Far too many holes that require mid iron tee shots, all about positional play. Some holes are very good but overall would only give this 5 out of 10.

I found SunRidge to be the toghest course I've played in AZ. The green complexes were very dificult. If you weren't in the right place you couldn't chip it close and 3 putts were not uncommon. The single digit handicaper I played with scored ten strokes worse at Sunridge than he did at Estrella Mtn the previous day.

Great pictures of a great course.
I liked the fact it is not bombers layout, it is a thinking man's course.
The greens were tough to figure. Can't remember if it breaks to Phoenix or the Mountains.
Hit the pin on the 17th ball sat on the edge of the cup.

Ended up playing Eagle Mountain twice and Sunridge once. I would play Sunridge over Eagle Mountain.

Great pics! I live in AZ in this is on my list...I'll probably wait for the cheaper summer rates though (that's right, in AZ, the cheap rates are in the summer when its 116* out)

Hello Everyone and Tom!

Made another run out to Scottsdale week before last and sure hit great weather.
This time we hit Talking Stick, Wee-ko-pa Cholla. Legend Trail and troon North Monument.

A couple of thoughts.

1) I want my ashes scattered over We-Ko-Pa. WOW what a golf course.
I'm back Feb.1 and can't wait to fight the 101 traffic to get on the Saguaro.

2) Much to my surprise I found Troon to be in so so condition. Not Troon like.

3) Legend Trail is still the best value going and in amazing shape.

4) First time on Talking Stick and despite a lot of good reviews I did not care for it at all.
Felt like I was playing in a construction parking lot.

I'm back on Superbowl Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Sunday is also the last day of the Phoenix Open.
Any thoughts as to the availability of discount green fees off of Golf Now and the likes those days? I was hoping to go easy on the budget this trip?

A tech rep I met raved about Los Caballeros in Wickenburg. Anyone know anything about it.
The rates are very high. Do they discount??

Cheers,
Brad

Huh! I didn't even realize this thread was almost a year old.

I've played Sunridge. Very, very nice. And yes, it was fairly
tough, I thought. There was one other course i've played around
there.(I guess, Mesa). But, I thought it was MUCH tougher. That
was Las Sendas. Tough, and greens rolling at about 13!!! scare2.gif drinks.gif

Estrella isn't that tough(I live there) but does have some great scenic views of the mountains. I have yet to find a course I didn't like though!!
