There are some good choices in the Baton Rouge area!

PRIVATE

(1) C C of La.----Nicklaus design.

(2) University Club---LSU

(3) Baton Rouge C C---former site of PGA Tour's Baton Rouge Open/Cajun Classic--won by amoung others, A. Palmer and Doug Sanders.

PUBLIC

(1) The Bluffs On Thompson's Creek---Palmer/Seay design---maybe their best(See P. 72 Feb 2008 GD)! #2 course in state according to Golf Digest. Isolated resort 25 miles north of BR near St.Francisville---famous for it's plantation houses (Rosedown). Eat there or in St Francisville!!!!

Great design, set thru forest on bluffs above beautiful Thompson's Creek. Every hole distinctive. Surprising elevation changes. Buy a yardage book/ bring Sky Caddie!

I play it every year and always stay there when attending LSU football games.

Home course for LSU Golf Team.Site of many local professional and SEC/NCAA tournaments. Head Pro Phil Schmidt, former LSU/ Nike Tour player. Best player in Gulf States Section of PGA---qualified for 2007 PGA Championship with Top 20 finish at 2007 National PGA Club Professional Championships.

THIS IS THE PLACE TO PLAY!!!!!! Good place to stay also!!!!!!

(2) Copper Mill G C---Zachary, LA.

Near BR in Zachary, LA.

I haven't played it but it's #9 in Golf Digest's list and was the "Best New Affordable Public" in GD a couple of years ago.

Other things to do in Baton Rouge:

(1) Eat!

(2) LSU campus

(3) LSU sports---baseball team inaction. Last year for Alex Box Stadium---sad---I used to play!

(3) Mike The Tiger's private enclosure on campus---home of LSU's latest mascot.

Definantly the Bluffs...worth the drive and they even have cottages that you can stay and play if you want. C.C. of Louisiana if you can get on...great Nicklaus course...with fast elevated greens.

TPC of Louisiana is In New Orleans...1 hour drive if your not in rush hour traffic...very nice as well.

BTW---March is getting into the azalea season and St. Francisville's plantation homes are a very popular tourist destination when they're in bloom.

Better make sure of your room and tee time reservations!

Have fun---the course is especially beautiful when the azaleas are out!
