help.gif Need some help gents: I have an OTR black 1999 Newport Tei3 that is in fairly fine cond as far as the head/insert is concerned but finish rusting & looks terrible. I want to send away for refurb to buff out marks & get orig finish..but what is the original finish? Is it Gun Blue?

Thanking you in advance.

The original finish is gun blue (aka black oxide).

There were a number of TeI3s made in Pro Plat, typically for the Tour or VIP customers, but these are relatively rare.

There are also a very small number made in Oil Can for Tour players. These are pretty rare.

If you send it in to Scotty's resto service, they will do a terrific job and it will look like new.

Holy Cow! Thanks for the quick reply and much needed information. I was confused but no longer...Domo Arigato!

PS: I visited your site and I must tell you am I quite impressed, not only with the wonderful collection you have, but with the terrific layout you
designed on your MAC. I convinced myself 2 years ago to go MAC, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. Still waiting for my current PC to die a miserable demise. Thanks again MJ, it is sincerely appreciated.

I have sent 3 putters exactly like yours to the Cameron Custom Shop to be restored. One was in the original gun blue finish, the other 2 were in the pro platinum finish. These are the two options offered by the Custom Shop for these putters. If you go with the gun blue it will look great, but the finish will wear again with use. The pro platinum will also look great but be more durable and with less maintainance.

Some say the pro platinum finish gives the TE I3 putters a "harder" feel than the gun blue. Personally I haven't noticed this. The insert still does its job of absorbing impact shock.

Hi Wan,

Id suggest trying out this company if you are still residing in Thailand, looks like they do great work and reasonably priced also smile.gif

Thanks for the link kind sir.

I'm debating the Thai contact, BOS or SC Shop. I intend to use this so not sure it's worth the SC $195 for a Tei3 refurb vs $50-60 with BOS/Thai. On the other hand I know SC will do the premium top to bottom refurb with maybe a few extra studio touches so that is worth placing into the equation too. Decisions, Decisions Decisions.

Thanks to all who chimed in, it is appreciated. I'll post the final product once I finally get it back in my little hands

Thanks Wan

I changed from PC about 3 years ago after I got fed up with constant security updates, system crashes and other problems. I am very un-techie but found the switch very easy, and it is even easier now that the Macs run Intel chips.

iWeb comes with the iLife suite (standard on new Macs) and is very easy to use. My top tip is to create a folder in iPhoto with the pictures you want to post and make sure they are all cropped in tight, if they are putters for example, and resized so they wil load at a decent rate - 500-600k should be plenty. Then play away with layouts and formatting.

On the TeI3 question, I agree the platinum finish might be marginally crisper, but I don't think it is a major difference.

If you are getting a full restoration, you only need snd the putter head, as the resto will include a new shaft and grip, so if your local pro can pull the shaft it might save some shipping costs to the US.

It says in the top right corner that the site was updated November 1, 2006. I would be sure to give them a call or visit their shop before doing anything with them
