I'm going to visit my sister in Jacksonville for a few days 10th-14th and getting a round in somewhere. Anyone have any recommendations for decent course for a good price? I found this one down the road in St. Augustine
http://www.joetowns.com/stjohns/golf_analysis.asp?hole=1Also if anyone from the site is interested in playing a round that would be really great. I'll be there with my girlfriend who doesn't play and my sister. It's going to kind of suck having to try to get on somewhere as a single in an area and course I don't know anything about. Please, feel free to PM me.

I have always wanted to play Hyde Park CC (public now), they used to hold a PGA Tour event here in the 50's. In fact, Ben Hogan scored an eleven on one of the par three holes. I want to play that hole and best 'ol Ben Hogan.
http://www.hydeparkgolfclub.com/Of course, TPC Sawgrass is there as well.

I've lived here my whole life and there are a lot of good choices. I highly recommend Panther Creek. The course record from the tips is 73 and is usually in great shape and cost about $35 to play with a cart. Another very nice course is North Hampton in Amelia Island a little north of Jacksonville. A little more expensive, but probably my favorite course for the money. Sawgrass is nice, it is where I will be working until Dec. 29th, but I don't think it is worth the money they charge compared to others in the area. Hyde Park is fun and very cheap, but can be hit or miss as far as condition goes. Let me know if you have any questions.

My wifes father lives in Palm Coast, and we have visited them quite a bit (back stateside on R&R, and then once we actually redeployed as well). Palm Coast is down the road a bit from Jacksonville, but there are several courses in the area I would recommend. The closest to actual downtown Jacksonville would be Eagle Harbor.
They dont have a website, as it is more of a community type area, but the course is public, and is a TREAT to play.
Both courses at the World Golf Village in St Augustine, the King and the Bear, and the Slammer and Squire, are very fun to play as well, I personally enjoyed the King and the Bear more, but you cannot go wrong with either one. The only downside is, they tend to be a bit on the pricey side (it is, after all, the WOLRD Golf Village).
Down in the Palm Coast area, are the two Ginn courses, which I believe are now called the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach (Ocean Hammock), and the Conservatory. The Ocean Course is a Nickalus design, with a couple of holes right on the Atlantic Ocean, and it is located on the Ginn resort property. It also hosted a Champions tour event last year, and will likely be an annual occurance. The hidden gem of the two is the Conservatory. It is an absolute AMAZING golf course, well maintained, and they are working on building up houses around the course, but since it is actually off the resort property, it still has a way to go yet. The PGA's Ginn Sur Mer (or whatever it is called), is slated to be held on the Conservatory next year, and it is an amazing course. The only downside to both of these courses, again, is the price, but if I could only play one course in Jacksonville ever again, it would be the Conservatory, it is a wonderful course, and pretty much right now the course is all to itself. I think when we played it back in October, there were two other groups on the course, and that was it.
You of course have Sawgrass up there as well, its pricey and you "HAVE" to be a resort guest, the Ginn is usually that way as well (resort guest), but you might be able to get on without staying at the resort, you have a better chance with Ginn than with the Mariott, that is for certain. I also think there is a site...called golfpaxjacksonville or something like that, where you can try to find deals on tee times. Good luck, and enjoy it, there are lots of good quality courses in the area, hope your trip there is enjoyable!

One would want to play Hyde Park not for the conditions but for the overall historical significance and to Beat Ben Hogan's 11 he scored on #6!

Thanks for the info guys. I wasn't exactly sure where her place was but found out it's in Atlantic Beach. I think Hyde Park is strong in the running since it's pretty close and rates are reasonable. Between my GF and I we want to spend under $300 while on the trip so that means less than $50 for a round of golf. Of course I may try to sneak a few extra bucks and possibly get an early round in Monday before we leave as well.

I realized that after talking to my sister. Being from a state where it takes 30minutes to drive end to end the map threw me. I thought Hyde Park must be like 8minutes away, she says more like close to an hour, lol. Cripes, the city is bigger than our whole state. I'll look into Selva as I hope to have a friend driving up from Orlando to meet me. I'd imagine you'd not be interested in witnessing my rusty a$$ 11 cap swing grind out an 89?

He's playing off 2 though so I'll need to step it up.

I would play with you, but I will be in Denver until the 14th. Another place to check out is Ponte Vedra Golf and Country Club at Sawgrass. Last Minute golfer should have some tee times available for under $50

Fun, cheap golf within minutes of Atlantic Beach is Jacksonville Beach Municipal Golf course
http://www.jacksonvillebeachgolfclub.com/home/index.php It is a very walkable course. The condition is reasonable but nothing to write home about. It is very "Florida" in its design and layout. I've played there a few times over the past few years while visiting at the Beaches and the pace of play has always been good.

Thanks, that's good to hear. I'll be playing a big course with my friend on Sat. and then I'll hit that Muni on Monday morning hopefully to get back a little confidence.

Do you have any idea how long it is? I saw nothing about the scorecard or layout on the site. If it is short I may just play it off reg. tees with irons only.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I ended up playing Jacksonville Beach twice as it was very close by and my sister was able to drop me off and pick me up. It was a fun course and the 2nd time the wind was ridiculous, I hit the green with a 3i from like 165 on a par 3 and I flushed it. I used Lastminutegolfer to get a tee time on a Sat. morning at Orange Park CC for $39 with cart. I had a great time and was joined with 3 other guys who also had used LMG. That was a great course and an awesome deal. I was able to get 3 rounds in and stay within a budget that could have easily been spent on 1 round. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it.
